2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

BTW - for those who have not used oxalic acid, here is what 'AI' says about it. . . "Soaking an iron casting in an oxalic acid solution is a common method for removing rust. Oxalic acid effectively removes rust (iron oxide) by converting it into water-soluble iron oxalate, which can then be...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

BTW - The more I think about the exhaust pieces, it looks like the best thing is to unbolt the riser from the exhaust manifold, swing it up 90-180˚ and pull it out of the rubber coupler (boot). Then the other pieces should come apart as needed.

I filled the risers with a fairly strong mixture of oxalic acid (via a long hose to the lower fitting) and will let it sit overnight. I have an appointment in the AM, so I'll be out on the boat in the PM running some neutralizer and seeing how things look.

Not much luck getting the exhaust pieces separated. The boots are plenty loose, the pieces just don't want to go. I'm done fiddling with them, I'm on to an acid soak of the internals, to the greatest extent that I can. I'm using oxalic acid (aka wood bleach). I've had good luck before...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

I'm trying to get the boots off the exhaust risers and elbows so I can get a look at the riser internals. . . They are no easier than the old style to get apart. So far, I have taken off the clamps and briefly ran the engines to loosen the boots up (which they did). Still hard to get things...

    @Scott Danforth . . . 5th strainer . . . Before all the other strainers . . . . :LOL:

Yes, the highest that I have seen is 80˚F for water temp and it only lasts for a couple of weeks. I'm also thinking flow issue, so I'll see what I can do short-term, as I only have a couple of days to work on it. I think I need to run the Diacom recording for longer - yesterday it was only...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Hi @Lou C - The exhaust is steel, both manifold and risers. AFAIK - The exhaust has never been inspected or replaced. The boat is in its 10th season, so not a surprise that it needs some love. ;) Out in the bay, I was getting a water temp of 78˚F . . . in the harbor it was a little less. We...

Here are a few more graphs . . . Clearly the starboard engine shows the riser temp coming down and then going up whereas the port just climbs . . . Water pressure and ECT look OK. File names denote the engine(Port/Stbd) If it is nice and sunny tomorrow, I'll clean out the Port and starboard...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Update for today . . . I checked the following . . . Port engine: Coolant in H.E. = full (both engines were & are full) Poppet valve: I removed the cover of the valve assembly . . . no build-up or anything and the spring action of the valve seemed normal . . . I could open the valve with a...

Also, I've been wondering what these things attached to the fittings were . . . . Apparently a check valve (8M0103408) . . . I guess it is to allow the raw water hose(s) to drain while the engine is not running?

Thanks . . . thinking it may be helpful. Do you have the recording file from before? Could just use that to make the TPS graph.

Got a graph with the TPS reading during this recording?

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

I've grabbed a few images from the Internet that show the parts under discussion. . . Above is the rear view of the engine, showing the P/S cooler and poppet valve. It looks like water to the risers branches off at the back of the engine via the 'Y' pipe (#12 - 8M2003728). So, the 'strainer'...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Are you pulling an all-nighter? My California peeps will be here next week, so hoping to have the boat operational for their visit. And yes, the port side of the port engine is nearly impossible to get to. I might practice on the port side of the starboard engine first, as that is an easier...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

I think I found in this picture where the 'strainer' is located. . . I'll take a look and see if that is clogged, etc. If not, then I'll take a look at the poppet valve.

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Thank you for the reply . . . I will look into the 'strainer assembly', as that may have some residual blockages from the 5 years of operation prior to my putting sea water strainers in before the sea water pumps.

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

This might be a question for @Fun Times , @muc , and a few others, but all are welcome. . . This season I am seeing that the port engine is going into guardian mode (3000 RPM limit) when I run the engines above 3600 RPM. This has happened a couple of times, and generally the engines will run...
