    PSA on Winterization Antifreeze

    Yup, I said that to myself a while ago with my previous boat. . . . Then I went boat shopping . . . o_O $$$$$$$$$$

    PSA on Winterization Antifreeze

You know what is interesting . . . Propylene Glycol has a freeze point of -74˚F . . . so the "-100F" antifreeze must be frozen long before it gets to -100 degrees. I think the guidance is to use it in temperatures down to about -60˚F . . . probably all anyone would ever need. (except...

    PSA on Winterization Antifreeze

@Lou C - Regarding the Peak/Sierra AF . . . it is interesting that it is marketed as a coolant rather than a winterization product. The data sheet indicated 95% PG, so it is concentrated. Not sure what the dilution ratio would be to get the desired strength, but the melting (freeze) point is...

    RWD Tow Vehicle Launch Issues?

I launch & retrieve my 14,000 lb rig with the '4WD Lo' enabled, but not sure I really need it. . . just easier not to have to set it while on the ramp. Off-road tires are your friend 🤪 . . This ramp is shallow, and there is a steeper ramp a few miles down the road that probably would need...

    PSA on Winterization Antifreeze

I was going by the colors as well, but after reading the fine print and checking the MSDS sheet, I realized that you cannot depend on the color. I have jugs of both pink and red that are alcohol-based.

OMG - I got an oversized load permit !!!

Quick update . . . The boat is winterized and ready for its long nap. I was hoping to run a descaling of the raw water side of the cooling system (full closed cooling), but the descaling solution that I ordered did not come in time. So, that will be added to the list next spring for...

    Bravo 3

I have not offered much help here, but I agree that the best thing to do would be to inspect all the parts for wear and partially re-assemble to see if the shift linkage and lever are working properly. If you want, you could *slightly* rough up the clutch surfaces, which can help the clutch...

Leaving Tampa, Osprey, Fort Myers ? ?

My brother lives in Naples. His boat made it through the storm OK . . . . . Other boats at the same marina suffered a different fate . . . . . He told me that he tied his boat to the lift, whereas apparently others did not. He plans on selling the boat, so it is good that it made it through...

    PSA on Winterization Antifreeze

Yes, I think it has to do with rubber gaskets and plastic parts being dried out by the alcohol (so, I've read on various sources). I've noticed that many of the lower priced AF also say not intended for engine winterization. Might be a marketing plot though . . . since the PG type is about 3X...

    PSA on Winterization Antifreeze

It seems like much of the affordable antifreeze is alcohol-based, but supposedly is not good for the engines 🤔

Leaving Tampa, Osprey, Fort Myers ? ?

I hope all of our Florida members stayed safe yesterday and that their boats fared well in the storm. That whole reverse storm surge thing in Tampa Bay was pretty amazing. I see that the storm made landfall around the Sanibel, Captiva Islands. Our family used to have property on Captiva...

    PSA on Winterization Antifreeze

It is that 'special' time of year in the northern regions where boats (and their engines) need to get winterized. Based on the winter incidents from last year (or 2), we are now including Texas as a 'Northern' state in the USA :ROFLMAO: Anyway, as a Public Service Announcement . . . Please be...

    2001 Doral 250SE Owners Manual

Welcome to iBoats . . . If you cannot find something by a Google search, then it may not exist. There is a Doral Owners Group on Facebook, if you have not tried there. Owners manual for boats, to the extent that they exist, are somewhat sparse in their useful information.

    Oil Filter, alt brands

You could certainly use another brand, but if you shop around you should find the Merc/Quicksilver oil filter for less than $20. Your choice.

All cleaned up (and no place to go) . . . .

OMG - I got an oversized load permit !!!

It comes off (and did). Just finished pressure washing the hull and outdrives. I usually get to it right away, while everything is still wet & soft.

OMG - I got an oversized load permit !!!

The boat is out . . . Uneventful. . . The boat centered on the bunks nicely with the tweaks that I made to the trailer while the boat was in the water for the season. . . The back-up camera, helped, but I still relied on the mirrors quite a bit. I think I need to put some marker poles...

    Vintage Mercury Cooling Issue

I do like the aspect of a SS baffle plate, just got to think about maybe using a stud & anode combination for the fasteners to give the engine block some galvanic relief 🤪

    Bravo 3 trim cylinder leak

I replace the trim cylinders on my Bravo 1 (does that count ?  ) Purging the air usually takes about 10 'full up and full down' movements of the outdrive. Have plenty of trim fluid on hand.
