    EXCESSIVE smoke…

Did you rebuilt the carbs? Replace the needle values and adjust the flats? A stuck needle will cause this condition

battery charging issue has me stumped

Pretty much confirms what I’ve said all along… your battery is bad. “Fully charged” is a meaningless measure of performance. All that means is the battery is at capacity. If you have a dead or dying cell, your battery capacity is reduced. If the battery is shorted internally, the regulator...

Looking at the schematic, you either missed connecting a wire at the battery or the kill switch (lanyard) or neutral switch is open

    Tilt Tube maintenance

What motor are we talking about? Most have a grease fitting in the middle of the tilt tube to grease the rod. I have a “steering Guard” on mine which has a lube port plus o-rings to seal the tube from water intrusion. Screws on the starboard side.

    2006 F200aet overcharge 15.6volts

Quite surprised the motor and or accessories/depth finder is not squawking loudly about the over voltage condition Test…. Isolate everything from a confirmed good battery except the motor. When/if the voltage jumps, measure your battery voltage using DC, then flip meter over to AC and try...

    Revolution limiter

That’s not the question he asked. He asked……”if anymore is familiar with an over rev control on 1999 Johnson / Evinrude engines?”

    Trim and tilt question

Jon boats are used in shallow, rocky rivers. The jack plate is simply there to raise the motor up to facilitate running in shallow.

Yes, it has a rev limiter. Part of the power pack circuitry

    Transom

Living in an area with a long, storied tradition of boat building, (restored) classics are where the money and prestige is. Along the lines of what gets more attention at the car show… the 2021 corvette or the 1962 split window next to it? Typically the only people buying the new, mass...

    2006 F200aet overcharge 15.6volts

A loose cable will cause voltage surges The regulator is monitoring battery voltage to regulate the flow of current. If it sees a voltage drop at the battery, it will increase the current in an attempt to keep up. Could simply just be the rectifier/voltage regulator is on the way out.

    2006 F200aet overcharge 15.6volts

The rectification is done in the voltage regulator circuitry. The fact that the voltage is moving around tells you the regulator is operational. Sounds like something is pulling the system down from an overload. First thing, I would unhook the winch to see what happens. From there I would...

    Help me choose VHF radios

Distance could be the issue. VHF is line of sight communications. For the most part, if you can’t see the other party you can’t talk to them. A high gain antenna (9db) would improve distance, but the pitch and roll of a small craft would be problematic because of the narrow beam width of the...

    New Journey

I run a pair of DC27 (not Costco) in my boat. Put 10 years on them before switching out. Both batteries tested good but felt guilty for not replacing them as PM Cant make cables for the cost you can buy them anymore. Cant think of their name off the top of the head, but one company does a...

Rectification is done in the voltage regulator. A failure causes crazy tachometer readings amongst others. Reuse the old OMS pump? Vacuum leak in fuel supply lines?

    Fuel line

Big fan of Trident. Replaced all my fuel lines from separator to primer bulb to fuel pump with Trident A1 last week. Bear in mind that A1 is designed for use in an enclosed area. It has a thick, fireproof cover and comes in a couple of different configurations ( bend radius). Check to make sure...
