    End of Season Maintenance

No reason to change the LU unit oil with such little use if no water is present. After the motor has sat a day or two, crack the drain screw to get a sample. If you don’t get any water or milky oil your good to go until next season

    End of Season Maintenance

I wouldn’t skip changing the engine oil but there is no reason you can’t skip changing LU if no water is present.

    Battery low alarm

My electronics low voltage alarm has always been my signal to start battery shopping, but try this first…. Make sure battery is fully charged and both battery terminals are clean and try it again. If you still get the warning, the battery is compromised and on the way out.

    Outboard Trolling Motor Mounting

Four stroke motors are very well suited for low rpm operation. They are most efficient at idle and happy doing so all day, every day. I can understand wanting to keep hours off your primary but in reality, salt kills by exposure not run time. As such, there is no such thing as a “low hour”...

    Spindle

The marks will not be detrimental to performance I would say the bearing retaining washer was flopping around from loose nut, bad bearing or a combination of the two. Run it…..

UNDIEN 380. not working, thought it was antenna but switched radios to test. Does the accessory cable (GPS) need to be connected to something ?

The accessory isn’t anything. I would say you have a bad connector but you proved that theory wrong with the second radio. Then again, a bad connection can burn out a radio transmitter. The only way to rule out a problem with the antenna is to test with a antenna meter

    Gauge making me crazy

Bi-metal temp sensors can and do fall out of calibration/linearity. Have you done any testing to confirm that the temp sensor is performing to specification? Testing harness: Pull out the harness connected to the sensor, to reveal the connection point, between the harness and the sensor...

Suggestions about boat not getting on plane and prop protection

Your typical 16' john boat is rated 25 - 35 HP......your dealing with 6 HP. In theory, a whale tail would raise the transom, flattening the attack angle (to an extent), but a whale tail needs speed to generate lift. The conundrum you face is that increasing your speed to generate lift also...

Suggestions about boat not getting on plane and prop protection

Adding weight is self defeating… A John boat is simply a 4 sided box flipped upside down. It will plane and is speed limited in its design. Adding weight increases drag which requires even more HP to go a given speed. Add enough weight and it will run flatter simply because you run out of HP...

Towing a boat with 9ft beam...

I have not found TA trailers (spring) to be sensitive to setup in the least bit. Weight distribution is handled by the equalizer assemblies. Torsion axles (I’ve had two) can be a bit more particular to setup but not overly. Half the time Mrs. Dingbat forgets to change the drawbar when pulling...

Suggestions about boat not getting on plane and prop protection

A John boat is not designed to plane. Most around here literally use a “pitch fork”

    24v trolling motor electrolysis

Saltwater is a facilitator, not a Process. The same Process can happen in freshwater as well... it just takes longer

Batter Switch Off, Still Power to Instrument Panel

Pull the cable (positive) to the switch off the battery. If the problem goes away you have an issue with the switch. If the problem persists, you have a "hot wired" circuit somewhere, typically the house battery

    24v trolling motor electrolysis

White powder (Aluminum hydroxide) and lifting paint is aluminum corrosion. A condition where moisture gets trapped on the surface of the aluminum. In this case water got trapped between the aluminum and paint. The process could have been initiated by galvanic corrosion (blistering painted) but...

    24v trolling motor electrolysis

Three things that cause it… stray current, dissimilar metals in contact with each other and improper grounding. Trolling motors not specifically designed for saltwater use don’t last long if used in salt
