    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Will have to check in to my motor thread again soon, cause I was able to do a little tinkering today. Started off by finally doing my ole girl some justice and put some much deserved decals on. Then I tinkered with the motor and found a few issues. First, fired her up as she was and had...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Looks nice!! A two tone transom sitting on the water may look normal. On the trailer, a little weird maybe. My transom matches my bottom hull, so the color did not continue around the sides to the transom. The polished bottom looks so sharp! Wish I had that option.

Somber news for iboats forums members.

Cheers to you @GA_Boater on your final sail. Gone but not forgotten!

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Thats lucky then! And will look sharp being straight AL under that. I never had that option unfortunately cause my PO covered every square inch of the hull bottom with coat-it. If its sitting on the trailer, it will be fine curing over time. Winching it on the trailer, travelling to the...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Yup lots of steps to remember. But once I started painting, it really wasnt that bad to do. Mine dried normal, but dry is not cured!! After its dry, Id wait a bit before moving it to the trailer too. After 3 days, mine wasnt cured and took a little damage getting back on the trailer which I...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Man, not sure why my notifications on this thread were off since february! Keep up the good work, shes lookin nice. Cant wait to see the paint on her! Definitely the most nerve wracking part of my build.

    1987 Starcraft islander 190v?

When you get it down to the bare hull, patch holes, replace the transom - thats basically the start of the full rebuild. Once your decks are solid and back in, the rest can be rebuilt as your money and time see fit. But you are setting the stage for a solid boat for many years. I still have...

    1987 Starcraft islander 190v?

Im late to this party, but just in time for the best part - a splash!! Haha. Nice work. Wish I had access to free aluminum during my build.

    Starcraft console to Gunnel joint?

On a trailer queen the thought never crossed my mind, but I fully understand your issue with it on a mooring. You are already aware of the windshield issue it would cause, and i cant see any problems beyond that. Another 3/4” or whatever it is higher shouldnt be an issue at all. Just be...

    New Journey

Yes the coat-it would look horrid on an unpainted hull. A small bit of 5200 couldnt hurt then, I just wouldnt expect it to be permanent. On the seams inside, a few I hit more than once where I could see it had seeped in. Id just keep hitting it with gluvit inside until you feel comfortable...

    New Journey

I would assume hammering rivets would not be good for the existing coatit. Not sure if covering up 5200 with gluvit would work, but seems redundant. A good coat of gluvit or coatit should stop the leak, especially if you can target exactly where it leaks inside. Id much rather hit the...

The story of two motors - 75 Johnsons

Man, reading that last post reminded me of the trip after it. UD started up great, was warming up as we got to the next arm of the lake, then boom, faceplant!! She started surging, died, and wouldnt get back up. Finally I was able to get her going and we crawled back to the dock at maybe...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Good weekend so far! Got most of my current honey do list done, and tore down the dirt bike as much as I needed to so I can take its shocks and carb into a pro shop for rebuilding. Which brings me to the boat…. Right now im on page 130/675 of the new motor manual, looking at carb cleaning...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Yea I wouldnt worry about sharing them, especially if company's are selling photocopies anyway lol. I got a dirt bike manual for free off of a member of another forum. Worked out great. Glad you got your manuals! Well worth being the guinea pig haha.

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Oh yea, I should mention that the service manual is definitely a copy of an original, complete with aged yellowish hue pages and ring holes. But the copy is outstanding. Crisp, clear, and complete.

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

I think it looks better in red than green!!! And @ShoestringMariner I took the chance and spent the $20 to buy the manual. It worked!!! I now own the factory service manual to my 1983 motor. For $20 I may buy the one for my 1978 motor too, but they are so similar I may not need to. I should...

Starcraft 1971'? 16' to Duck Boat Rebuild

Foam looks good! For leak testing, I fixed rivets first, then tested, then fixed remaining, then coat-it (gluvit). Opt A as you stated. Rivets you should replace are ones that are loose, missing (obviously), corroded, or tails are missing or low. Some can be re-bucked. Those splashwell...

Starcraft 1971'? 16' to Duck Boat Rebuild

Router would be much better than my method if you can, but I didnt own one at the time. Just dont forget to seal that wood from every angle and hole. I put spar down every bolt hole. On my transom I oversized the holes, epoxied, then drilled through the epoxy so no wood was ever exposed where...

Starcraft 1971'? 16' to Duck Boat Rebuild

Man Im glad I redid my boat before plywood doubled its already high price. 3/4” ply will do just fine for transoms and floor. Pretty sure mine was bcx, but PO installed it, I reused it. Whatever you do, put an aluminum backing plate on those bases under the floor, dont just screw or rivet...
