Is the outer diameter of the bearing under the snap ring made from white plastic? If so there are 2 slots in the plastic where the bearing can be rotated 90* and pulled out, then with a screwdriver you will be able to pry out the plastic retainer, there will also may be some brass shim stock...

Post a picture of the hoses between the lower block to the rams. The hoses go front of the block to the furthest port on the rams, these rams are not left and right so always use the front port on either ram. Is the hoses connected to the block where the high pressure port is forward? Have you...

Look at picture # 929.3 just above the tilt motor, slide the protective tubes to expose the shift wires, blue for back up and green for go. With the key on and shifted to reverse you should have 12 v on the blue wire. If no voltage go to the shift control. Also to test the magnets in the...

With the boat in the water and the engine idling disconnect the incoming hose from the drive at the thermostat housing, try to stop the water flow with your thumb over the end of the hose. If you can hold it back then the pump needs service. You should check the condition of the thermostat in...

Definitely a electric shift and the lower unit gear housing from 68-77 are all the same. The upper case 73-77, the 165-170 & 190 had the same gear ratio. There is a grease fitting just below the outer steering gear, and under the rubber bumpers As well as one inside the front of the exhaust...

Just like the SD & SK posted, you have an antique. With the drive raised how much material is still on the ball gears? Obviously a ”sweet water” boat, no way the drive would have lasted this long with salt water use. The engine has a 351 cam and heads and firing order, 13726548. You probably...

    1973 MC-1 Outdrive

All you will have to do is cut out some material on both sides of the transom cut out and drill 2 new holes. The outer plate cannot be replaced with the engine in place. Do not be surprised if the wood in the transom is rotted. Keep us posted.

At this point you will be better off locating a later used gimbal housing from 76-90. There are some marine salvage yards around the country that will have what you need. In Marrero just next to New Orleans there is a place called The Boat Yard. They have plenty used parts. Just google them.

    Volvo Penta 6cyl /Chrysler 270.

Back in the early days of inboard gas engines Chrysler was a major player in the marine industry. In the late 60s-early 70s they wanted to get into the smaller stern drive boating scene and started selling boats that were either built by them or someone else with their name on them equipped with...

Need help! Looking for a replacement starter for a 1986 Bayliner Capri bowrider with a 4-cylinder Volvo Penta inboard outboard motor

If your engine is a fresh water cooled slant 4 cylinder genuine Volvo engine this is the Sierra # 18-5906. Bayliner used that model engine at that time. If you are still in doubt try to post a picture of your engine.

Volvo Penta 855932 Prestolite 7801A advance springs

OMC also used Prestolite distributors along with Mallory. You might have some luck with the obsolete OMC parts dealers. Mercruiser also used the Prestolite distributor on some Ford engines until the late 70s. I was a Volvo dealer from 72-03 Along with Mercruiser, OMC and Berkeley Jet also used...

Engine cut out while slowing down....

You should remove the distributor cap turn the engine by hand and check how the push rods are acting. Wedge something between the alternator and the block to keep the belt tight so that you can use a 15/16” wrench on the alternator pulley nut. Also check if the rotor lines up with the #1 wire...

Volvo Penta 855932 Prestolite 7801A advance springs

What happened to the springs? If they rusted away and you are still using points then there is a good chance that the rotor shaft is also rusted and abrasive which wears out the rubbing block on the points. If your distributor is the electronic version then point wear is no problem. I was a...

Most times by winding the spring until the butterfly just closes then 3/4 more of a turn will put it real close. I always did that with the throttle held wide open.

    Overheating after impeller change

If there were some impeller blades missing did you find them? If not then they may be lodged in the elbow that is warmer to the touch. If the power steering cooler is down stream from the raw water pump they may be inside the tube nest. Earlier Volvos had that style but yours may be the...
