    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Thanks @classiccat I will check the local true value. Big orange box was a waste of time looking for it. I kinda figured glassing over varnish wouldnt be the best idea. Will ponder what to do with the transom for a few days. So this happened today!!! Boat is off the trailer and turtled...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

@SHSU Thank you for the thorough response! Went to the big orange store last night and got the angle grinder, cutoff wheel, a nice cobalt bit, and a wire wheel. For the transom, not sure I want to worry about maintenance with just spar. Was definitely leaning towards epoxying it at the...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Will have to catch up on a lot of your thread, its so long Ive only read some of it, but got my steering wheel off with a 3 jaw adjustable puller rented from napa. Made short work of it and was well worth it. Boats looking good!

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

SW is still on for tonight but she got a bath. Much cleaner inside and will try again tomorrow on the SW. My drill bit did not want to go through the head of the rivets. Only 6 rivets are holding my SW on so many were missing lol. Reading up on removal and need it done tomorrow. Friday it...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Transom is off!! Going to remove the SW too to address corrosion issues and make it easier to reinstall/fix/clean everything. SW removal and pressure wash happening after lunch. So glad I did not leave that transom intact - it would not have been long before it was rotten. Came out in one...

Haha yes it is! Was not expecting it but he had 3... Once that motor is back on the boat ill switch the stinger over to it. Takes up a lot less space than the huge wooden one I built. Thanks for the info about the rear transom cover. Will get to is Wednesday most likely, and its good to...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Moving along!! Removed 90% of the transom bolts, and the rear outside wood. Glad I did that. Lots of wrong/bad rivets to fix in the transom area. Transom is ready to come out, boats ready to be hosed down, and rivets are ready to be counted so i can order them. PO was over today and I was...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Got the motor off and on an engine stand, as well as parked the boat outside again. Garage is half empty!! Will have room to do some work now before she has to go back in. Clocks ticking against the snow coming one day... Just need to remove the remaining wires out of the hull then pull the...

Wife and I upgraded from a 1436 lol where you literally feel like falling out constantly. So it was a huge difference in stability to us.

    1983 starcraft ss180 restore

Nice boat! Shop too haha. Looks like you are well on your way to getting her splashed. Good plan too, Im a few steps behind you and following a similar order so keep showing her off! I have a 16ss and it goes 30mph with a 75 johnson. Im guessing yours will do similar. Boats ride great in...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Getting excited! Got all the electrical out except for the stuff attached to the motor. But, plans are in place to pull the motor tomorrow, after fishing, meaning the gutting will be complete! PO is also coming over sunday to mill some lumber and hang out. Then I can wash her and prep for...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

@SHSU Absolutely. I know it wont be perfect but it will be done right. Not sure how long I will live at this house or in CA so time is of the essence lol. Plus I want to be splashed by summer time at the latest. I commend you for the long rebuild but that would kill me!! Want my garage back...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

@SHSU I like how you have your drain set up much lower. I have noticed I get quite a bit of water sitting in mine. Due to the lovely laws of CA, if I am inspected before launch and its found i have ANY water present in the bilge, then I will not be permitted to launch. I will keep it in mind...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Yea worth discovering now than down the road. I figured there would be more surprise parts of the project so looks like she will get the full treatment. Bright side is with the motor removed the boat will fit in the garage better and allow me to take her over to my in laws where they have an...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

@Mikesta glad to have ya along! Looked through your build and picked up some info from you too! Thanks! My floors used to match the paint but the sun/dirt ruined them. The green vinyl is really my biggest pet peeve but its out now and gone forever. Will definitely order way more rivets...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

@Watermann Yes the transom on the inside has AL covering it. There is another piece of wood on the outside of the transom that is painted black. Since its in the water constantly back there, i hope its sealed lol. I should probably look at some other transoms to compare and see if mine needs...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Alright, finally got the floors out!!! All shopvac’d and ready for the next step - pressure wash. Then count rivets and order them. So far not seeing as many wrong rivets as i thought i would. Meantime look for fuel tank options. Pretty happy with how the metal hull looks - no major pits...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Consoles and front deck fully removed?? Not sure what you’re looking at. Is something not right?? Lol. Cause that wouldnt surprise me. The stringers and supports were barely or not attached for the most part. Will definitely think about adding the float switch to the bilge. PO said he...
