    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

I was going to cut & install my new decking but the weather is dogging me. I wanted to do it this weekend but they're calling for snow, a lot of snow. So I packed it all up and took it to the canvas/upholstery shop. The gentleman spent about an hour and a half looking at the boat and going over...

It's the same mess of wires for everybody who redoes one of these boats. It comes from years of adding this or that, and replacing electronics. There's always a huge rats nest of wires... I went a little thicker 16ga., bought good marine grade wire, designed it to minimize the number wires...

lol, don't worry about it. I actually rewired the boat a couple of years ago and I did end up running the wires down the gunnels. I did a few things to clean it up though. - I greatly reduced the number of wires running the length of the boat by basically running battery cable in their place...

Thanks! The corrugated drain tile is actually 3 inch, and it's for natural ventilation. On one end it connects to a cowl on the front of the boat. On the other it's tucked under the sheet plastic in the cavity I created. As you move through the water the cowl "scoops" in air, the corrugated...

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

I'm sure, based on the workmanship I've seen on iBoats, what I did can be improved on but here are my notes for working with the foam for anybody who's considering it: - I think a controlled atmosphere is a must, a heated shop or pull barn with consistent heat throughout. - I used Total Boat...

Remember I am a self-proclaimed amateur. With that in mind, I think the pour in foam was a success. It's not pretty but it's in and the whole plan seemed to have worked out great. I bought 6 gallons, or 3 kits of the Total Boat Floatation Foam system. I thought, if it were perfectly filled, I'd...

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

The boat is in the shop getting acclimated. I head back to do the foam in the morning, the last chance for it to all blow up in my face... I've done everything I can think of. I have a controlled environment, I've kept the chemicals in my house so they didn't freeze or get super cold, although...

I got the rest of the sheet plastic in and I took a couple pictures to show what I mean about the plastic folded in so it rides up the stringers. It looks like this is going to be the weekend that I will get the buoyancy foam in. My plan is to drop the boat off inside the heated shop overnight...

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

Thanks. I think it is going to do a great job of keeping the foam off of the aluminum and creating a cavity that will allow water to flow freely. It should stay pretty dry under there between that and the natural ventilation that I tucked under the sheet plastic. The sheet plastic is wedged in...

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

Got my framing and most of the sheet plastic in (ran out). I think it's going to work out great. If everything goes well, I'm hoping to do the foam this weekend.

I have pretty much the same thought on that. They work their way loose. Rivets come loose and leak... That's part of owning an aluminum boat to me. Every so often you have to replace plywood and rivets...

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

I hear you, and it's not that I'm afraid of the work, but I don't have a shop. That stuff has to be applied under the right conditions and I can't affectively clean my boat and do the proper prep work in 10-30 degree weather. I'm not going to let it hold up my project. This is my only boat. I...

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

I kind of regret that I'm not going to treat my rivets with Gluv-It... I replaced all the damaged and loose solid rivets that I could find. I wanted to treat it all with Gluv-It but I just don't have the conditions to clean it and prep it properly to apply the Gluv-It. I'm content with doing...

They're correcting the plating. I showed him the notes and without hesitation he said they'll make it right and apologized. Thank god some people still do the right thing. He's going to try to get them back to me before the weekend.

One of the things I don't know about XPS, is how it reacts with gas, oil and chemicals that get into a bilge. I can't find anything about that. The pour advertises that it is unaffected by gas and oil.

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

The foam is not meant to be structural in my boat, although it can be. The aluminum plating is riveted in the way the plywood decking was. I'm going to put plywood decking back over everything when I'm done. Actually, I'm thinking I should leave a gap between the plywood and the foam. I don't...

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

Here's a picture of what I'm trying to do. I want to lay the sheet plastic, install the aluminum plating, pour the foam, then install decking. The plastic bridges the ribs creating a cavity under the foam. The corrugated tile at the front of the boat gets tucked under the plastic for the natural...

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

Well... Bad news for me. They didn't cut my sheet plating right... The pieces are perfect except the part that is supposed to straddle the stringers is wrong. Thankfully, I can show them where it was their mistake, not mine. I guess we'll find out what's going to happen with this Monday...

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

The plating is inspired by @Watermann chief actually. I believe it was his build. He had to raise his decking so he put wood strips across the tips of his ribs, bridging them, and then fastened the decking to the wood and his stringers.
