I don’t know about the required torque specs but I’d use Nylock nuts. Not compression nuts though. Stainless threads can be nasty for galling and seizing. I never use impact guns on stainless hardware either

Hey, do you guys have any ideas where to mount the shore power plug in port? I’m adding it for the dual bank battery charger. The charger will be mounted under the drivers or passengers helm. Concerned with spray. There is a rubber gasket that comes with it. But I don’t want to see it getting...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Thanks. I think I have some flexibility regarding connections at the helm. It will be a brand new dashboard so hole patterns will be to suit. I think your idea to swap them around and see if it works is best. I was just hoping to find a quick answer save some time.

Great to know this works. I have blown my budget for this phase so if I can re-use it, I’m all for it.

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Got a Steering question for you guys. I have a couple of rotary systems from a few donor boats. I’m not using the rack and pinion that was in the boat for better space behind the dash and because the spindle shaft threads were toast bu a previous owner. Are the cables all interchangeable on...

    Starcraft Rub Rail

Yup, thank you very much for your kind donation it’s going to look great. Appreciate the soak idea. I will look into that. Im hoping to reuse the original but not sure how it re-installs. (Slide in with liberal soapy water, or mallet in with heat gun??)

I’m told the year is 1952 but don’t know anything else….

John boat with a cabin? I’ve never seen one of these before. The storage in the cabin would be pretty good

    Starcraft Rub Rail

Today I had an “Oh no, what have I done” moment. This moment came as soon as I peeled the first foot of rub rail off. I had to apply heat from the heat gun. A bit late to ask now, but is this the rub rail material still available anywhere? I’m concerned I’m not going to be able to heat this up...

Those step plates came out beautifully. Bummer about the switch panel, I bought the same one too. Blue sea or sea dog brand or something?

Waterproof seal on Nautolex clad surfaces

Update I just looked it up. It’s a tetrachloroethylene that must smell. The predominant solvent used for dry cleaning. how do you like that? been 30 years since I smelt that stuff…

Waterproof seal on Nautolex clad surfaces

Thanks, yes I used it on all of the thru floor rivets and it does smell. Definitely not silicone. I’m not sure what the component is inside it but it reminds me of a dry cleaning chemicals. And it doesn’t take much for it to go to your head. Especially when you’re kneeling over top trying to...

Waterproof seal on Nautolex clad surfaces

Thanks Scott, that’s what I was starting to suspect. I do like butyl tape because it’s malleable and sticky but I was wondering if it was malleable enough to squish down into all the voids to create a water tight seal. (for shedding water, not containing)

Waterproof seal on Nautolex clad surfaces

Thanks. I’ve actually been hanging out here for a little while but mostly over on the StarCraft forum. Photos found in my resto/build thread. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/shoestring-starcraft-ss160-resto-mod-let-the-long-slow-road-begin.721077/page-24#post-5753065 You will have to surf...

Waterproof seal on Nautolex clad surfaces

I’m redoing my boat and I’ve installed floors clad with nautolex. I’m working on other surfaces next. I’ve found that acetone and nautolex don’t mix, not that acetone and ANYTHING mixes lol. Anyway, I reached out to both the supplier and the manufacturer to see if there were any products that...
