Might try asking this over in the restoration section .. Maybe some of the gell coat guys @Scott Danforth can get you headed in the right direction .

As jb said pixs would help .. As long as the existing paint is adhered well and not pealing or bubbling up there's no reason you cant paint it ..
Give it a good cleaning to get rid of any oil and gunk .. Scruff it up real good with say 100 grit sand paper .. Acetone wipe down then use rusto...
My problem is the stuff I am pretty good at is becoming something that I just cant do physically any more very well ..That is extremely frustrating !
I do think there is hope for the future though .. I have seen some younger folks with good promise . But like was said earlier, todays skills are...
Idk , the pick your spot OT might be cool to try out . Maybe do pre season for a test .
Just to see how teams would strategize to get a win .. Still think both teams should have a possession though .. Instead of sudden death .
