    1974 Mercury 850 serial#4123383 / bad stator

Re: 1974 Mercury 850 serial#4123383 / bad stator I'm not sure, was the resistance you measured the same'ish as what the book says it should have been? If its close, then it's not shorted or open.....hmmm, magnets okay under the flywheel? What model number fluke are you using? Maybe there...

    Dash lights

Re: Dash lights Yes.. you just made a 1 wire is all. Personally....I'd dis-connect that and run it as near to the batt as possible though, your batt charge states will be managed much better, unless it's close as possible by default. For the low fuel light........you'll end up with...

    Dash lights

Re: Dash lights Good deal, if this thing is wired as per factory then of the two wires....the red wire is the sense(#2 on schematic) wire and should be going to 12 Volts somewhere (typically parallels the Batt term wire to somewhere near the batt). The Black wire is the idiot light wire (#1 on...

    Dash lights

Re: Dash lights We were talking (i think) about a 3 wire alternator, verses 1 wire alt's...The typical three wire alt types have of course, the batt. term wire, a sense wire (terminal #2 typically) and a idiot light wire [(terminal #1) makes the 1/4 of his idea easy to implement.] opposed to...

    Positive Battery Terminal Getting Hot...

Re: Positive Battery Terminal Getting Hot... Hold still you Screwy Wabbit!!! Sounds like one of those morphing types ... Given the cables all appear ok now......Guess what I'd do at this point (with the appropriate PPE), is connect a voltmeter across the starter.....ON the stater's...

    AMP Gauge upgrade?

Re: AMP Gauge upgrade? I kinda did too, gave a sorta sense of getting from here to there in a weird and twisted way, A to B if you will. I wiped the links to them in wrenches quote though......keep things clear for OP

    Switches and Battery's, it's a power thing.

Boring in here today, might as well...:D This might take a bit to build up and to organize, pardon the delay... Two spice plots [ummm, a computer ran math modeled simulation of the above drawing(similar), we got to Mars this way.....breathe, this shouldn't hurt] below of the the circuit...

plastic gear on 200 h.p. Mercury xri

Re: plastic gear on 200 h.p. Mercury xri After thought, it must be the "coupling bushing", (merc's language, not mine) he refers too as the "top bushing" and as Dog did refer to as the "top" as well. I say that because he says "through the block", and "flanged" so it must be the coupling...

plastic gear on 200 h.p. Mercury xri

Re: plastic gear on 200 h.p. Mercury xri Looks, tastes, feeling bushing to me....Regardless, IF it's true Dog,........one of the two, top or bottom, left or right might have been changed. I really don't know, just looking into it.

plastic gear on 200 h.p. Mercury xri

Re: plastic gear on 200 h.p. Mercury xri Well, geeeesh, top, bottom, inside, outside.........This is then the "top", it's part of the drive shaft on the left. There ain't no more...... It's a bushing too or runs as one, there's no bearings in what I have. But, pretty sure the brass/bronze one...

plastic gear on 200 h.p. Mercury xri

Re: plastic gear on 200 h.p. Mercury xri Copy and paste, got it off another web site.....shhhhhhhh.........So, I have no clue how legit it is but, same here as well, take these things with a grain of salt. The guy is a senior member for what it's worth. Nobody beat him to death over what he...

    Help with stern light problem

Re: Help with stern light problem Dude!!! It just might be shorting there  , like my story better, had more drama. Should take out fuses though...Hmmmmm At any rate, heat shrink those up nice and tight, re-check with test lamp connected to ground. 1) lamp off probing ground...

    Second batt gauge

Re: Second batt gauge Nice lay out. Normally, when your Ignition switch is turned on, it sends 12 volts to your meters. This is most likely how your setup now then you might prefer.... to not be switching other buttons etc to get your v-meter on or off and/or view things and they're off when...

    Does anyone know....

Preface......I have a manual(V6,92 newer 135-225, carb), so I have somewhat of an idea and can interpolate/speculate with the best of them all day ;) However, Merc. never(I can't find it) comes out and says per-se, other than the fuel pump spec's(moot point), which I saw/have..... So, has...

mercury outboard carburetor body throttle shaft bushings

Re: mercury outboard carburetor body throttle shaft bushings Bought some bronze bushings (0.25" ID x 0.3125" OD x 0.75" L) from a local hardware store but had to open them up a tad (9/32" drill bit) to fit the standard shaft. I wanted the wall thickness (comes out to approx 0.016") fairly...

mercury outboard carburetor body throttle shaft bushings

Re: mercury outboard carburetor body throttle shaft bushings Found myself in the garage (too full to do anything else), started tinkering with these worn carb shafts etc. Had a thought of what my merc guru mech (guy eats, breathes, lives merc's, I swear) go to guy said to me a few weeks...
