    out drive gear lube

Suck out the oil from the tank located on the engine. Fill up the lower unit until it comes out the top hole. Replace the plug and keep pumping. When the air is evacuated the oil will start to fill the reservoir tank. Continue to fill to the proper level. You probably have air in the system...

    Boat cover needed

Canvas for a 17 year old boat is not available. Go to a custom canvas shop and have them duplicate what you have. You in Buffalo? Foxy's tops is a good choice. Or, take it to any marine dealer and have their vendor do the work.

Buying a boat that’s sat for 5 years

Your own words disqualified this wreck. After seeing the transom cracks that should further discourage you. Book values for this boat in GOOD condition are between 6400-7400. So right off the bat the PO is off the chart in his expectations.

In search for a 17 ft deck boat

The boat in the picture is a 1984 19' Stingray. It lived in that garage its whole life and still looked like new after 35 years. The excellent service life of that boat is why I always speak well of Stingrays. Our new SeaRay is considerably higher and wider, although the overall length of the...

Buying a boat that’s sat for 5 years

The boat is worth -$6,000. In other words, if you got it for free it would cost you 6 grand to make it safely seaworthy. The guy let it rot and now has visions of grandeur that its worth money.

In search for a 17 ft deck boat

I'm an engineer as well. When I built my house I designed it so it would fit the boat.......and......still have the car attached to it. Garage cost / sq. ft. is relatively inexpensive. Laws are laws, I guess, but believe me indoor storage is priceless. Others say that the life span of a boat...

In search for a 17 ft deck boat

You got the right idea about outboards. With the new swing tongue trailers that come with most packages, I think the total length for an I/O vs. OB will be quite the same. If your garage backs up to a family room or other part of the house, you have few options. But, if its at the back of the...

In search for a 17 ft deck boat

For the last 2 boats I bought the dealer had one of the same model on the floor, so I was able to measure it before I ordered mine. In both cases they fit with an inch to spare. No after market windshields for that style boat. If I were buying a Stingray I would buy the 192. "Deckboats" mean...

In search for a 17 ft deck boat

If you have a local Stingray dealer and he is good to work with, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. It's not a Cadillac boat, but more of an Oldsmobile. First, measure it to ensure it'll fit. If the specs say 42 mph, that's what it'll do. Just review their performance curves. But that's with...

    24' Sunesta in 20' slip??

Not your problem. If the marina OK's it good to go. If they charge you more, pay it. If you back end sticks out and someone hits it, call your insurance agent.

14' boat on 19' boat trailer?

If the 19' was already spoken for why did you ask the question?

14' boat on 19' boat trailer?

Put the transom at the end of the trailer. Adjust the winch stand to the proper place. Move the axle to get the proper tongue weight. Try her out and see how she trails. Most likely your only problem will be that the trailer bounces a lot because of insufficient weight on the springs that are...

    Minimum MPH Boat/Motor?

Lots of controversial discussion about Amsoil in general, plus the everlasting 50:1....100:1 debate. Run this at 100:1 in a trolling kicker and I'm sure you'd love the performance. But, wanna run it in the main at 5000 rpm? And if you troll with the main at 50:1 my guess is that it would foul...

    Minimum MPH Boat/Motor?

If you are using a kicker, that will be necessary too. If you try to use the main with a low pitch prop, my feeling is that there still will be more fouling than you'll be happy with. Like I said, been there, done that. As far as electric, I know some people do it and swear by the new high...

    Minimum MPH Boat/Motor?

For trolling fishing when you need true boat speed in the water, a GPS is absotutely worthless. Wind, waves and current negate any advantage of the GPS. A pitot tube speedometer, properly set up and functional is an awesome measuring device, but its not accurate at slow speed. It get all the...

    Minimum MPH Boat/Motor?

Been there done that. 1.8 MPH is what you want. Whether it goes that slow depends on the boat and motor combination. Regardless, if it does indeed met the required speed, you'll foul those plugs in short order. Put on a 6 - 9.9 kicker and you'll problem will be solved. Everyone needs a...

How do you match new trailer to existing boat?

Bow stop and axle for sure. But, boat deadrise varies considerably from different brands and models. If all you have is a low priced trailer with only 2 bunks, then you're good to go. If it has more than 2, and it fits perfect on the hard, then you lucked out.

How do you match new trailer to existing boat?

If you bought a brand new trailer, the marina that sold it should be responsible for setting it up. If you negotiated a real cheep price and setup was specifically excluded, go back and re-negotiate the deal.

Anyone use synthetic nylon winch cable? Or anything besides steel?

I'm happy with my steel cable, but would entertain replacing it with this fancy stuff if it was indeed better. But, since I have all PowerWinch equipment with 3/16" cable, the 1/2" wouldn't fit on the drum. Its full now and I use the whole thing. So, what option do I have?
