1985 140 Johnson looper 20 degree temp difference between port and starboard

13% between expected (53) and actual (46) performance. Could be a bad or mismatched prop. Have you run a prop calculator on each prop? OE lower unit?

1985 140 Johnson looper 20 degree temp difference between port and starboard

When was the last time you changed the impeller. I get close to 30 psi with a fresh one. Not possible for the rpm to increase w/o a change in speed unless the props efficiency changes Having said that, aluminum props can and do wear out over time

Issue with gas tank being too large

The obvious answer is to buy only as much as you use in a season. Makes no sense to buy more than you need in a season then store it. I’ve stored whatever is left in my 92 gallon tank at the end of the season, typically 30-40 gallons, for the past 20 years. 50/50 if it was stabilized or not...

    Fuel Stabilizer Question

Are all your other vehicles modern 4 stroke outboards as well? Seafoam is basically naphtha and isopropyl alcohol. Guessing they're worried about it fouling the emission control sensors. I don't know if it will actually mess up the sensor(s), but why risk it while the motor is still under...

    Starting from scratch

The primary function of an ACR is the keep the “Primary” battery fully charged then route any excess charging capacity to the "Secondary" batteries. The ACR is controlled (open/closed) by voltage/time thresholds. On my setup, the connection between the "Primary" to "Secondary" battery closes...

Remove all wires from solenoid. Check for continuity between battery and starter posts on solenoid. Should be open. Check for continuity between control posts. Check for 12v between (+) control wire to solenoid to ground. On/off should be controlled by key switch

    Outboard Painting

Pure aluminum is a very soft, pliable material. Pretty useless except for beverage cans and a couple of other applications To add strength and machinability, Aluminum is alloyed with various elements, copper, magnesium, manganese, silicon, tin and zinc being the most common. Talk about a...
