    Looks/sounds to me like it's not getting fuel with that little sneeze/backfire in the carb. I'd start with what BT Doctur mentioned. Your fuel bowl in the carb may be empty.

    I agree with the others, looking at those photos, I'd use the speedi sleeves and new seals. You can remove/replace the seals in the cover by hand, but support the backside of the cover where the seals are so added pressure isn't on the rim/edge of the cover.

    I've lifted a SBC with that carb lift off plate with the engine bolted to the TH350 trans. I have a friend that did it with a 455 Buick engine and trans bolted to it. I personally wouldn't give it a second thought.

    Yes, N/O, as in without oil pressure, with the engine off, the contacts are separated. The starter powers the pump for the few seconds the engine is cranking over until the switch reads pressure and then closes to make contact and take over.

    Welcome. The block is aluminum, but the cylinders are sleeved. The rings are not riding on aluminum but iron sleeves pressed in the bores. When you work it by hand, do you get any tiny bit extra travel with each movement?
