    Weak spark

You could use the spark tester at the HV wire of the coil. If you have weak spark there also, the problem is not the cap or anything downstream. Usually, a yellow color is a weak spark, blue is a strong spark, orange, well, ok in good condition, may not spark a high compression engine... Do a...

    Weak spark

May I ask how you test for weak spark? With a spark tester or by holding the cable near grounded metal and moving it? If the later, the danger is having the coil trying to spark, but the cable is too far, and the coil will spark inside itself, and destroy its insulation, and reducing its output...

Lack of cooling water flow at idle and low rpm.

If you're on the trailer, try to lower the front, and test. Also, test your raw water pump in case the bearing seal is leaking air. Pump sucking air instead of water. It happened to me. I vacuum tested and pressure tested all sections from the outdrive to the pump to finally find that.

Volvo Penta Fuel Pump Leaking After Engine Shutdown

Most likely the check valve of the high pressure fuel pump doesn't work properly. Mine is doing that. Bleeds to 5 psi in 5 minutes. When I start the engine, I just wait for the 2 beeps to complete (1.5 seconds) before starting. It gives a chance to the fuel pump to fill the fuel rail.

Engine doesn't start without throttle opening

After 3 pages of text I tought it would be a good idea to resume my tests. Fuel: Fuel pressure; 55 psi cranking and running (bleeds down to 10 psi in 1 minute with engine OFF) Checked FPR screen; no paint debris Checked bleed valve from fuel cell; no fuel going in the intake manifold...

Engine doesn't start without throttle opening

Thanks for your feedback. I also have a bleedback of fuel pressure when I turn the engine OFF. I confirmed this with a gauge. Went from 55 psi to 10 within a minute. But, what makes me believe that this is not my problem, is when I turn the key ON, the pump turns ON and rises the pressure to 55...

Engine doesn't start without throttle opening

Ok, I put some more effort in this hard starting problem. I already had a new cap and rotor and plugs with no improvement. I installed new Volvo spark plug wire set and it improved the starting let's say by a good 60%. Spark was not good I guess. I checked the voltage at the coil while...

    Waste tank cover removal

it's not like epoxy hard, but very firm. I can dig my fingernail in it a bit but no mark left. Someone locally suggested me to try to cut as much as I can around it, and heat it with a hair dryer. I will try that first.

    Waste tank cover removal

If it's 5200, the cover needs to be destroyed?

    Waste tank cover removal

Yep, I need to remove that cover to clean the level floats that are stuck. The cover seems to be glued or whatever, but I can't turn it. I tried with a strap wrench, but had to stop before breaking the plastic tabs. Any way to soften the glue or silicone?

    Which waterproof spray for cover

I use a product made for camping canva tents and it works very well and a lot less expansive ($50 CND per gallon) Instructions say to brush the product, but I remove the roof from the boat, and after washing it, and drying it overnight, I use a spray bottle (pump type) and soak the canva. Works...

    Inaccurate fuel gauge?

Does that mean that you use the analog output of the sensor to your gauge, and not the NMEA2000 ? I have an older Garmin GPS, and Garmin say that I need to upgrade the firmware to be able to accept the fuel flow sensor on NMEA2000.

    Inaccurate fuel gauge?

Nola Mike; You say: ' to account for the attitude of the tank'. It may be just that, the angle of the tank creating a bad reading at the level sensor. On my boat, when stopped, the fuel tank is not level, in leans down at the front, and my gauge is at the back, so I read always lower than...

    Trailer Guide Ons DIY?

On my trailer, I tried first the vertical posts uprights. In theory, they are perfect to center the boat. The reality I found, is that since the boat is wider in the center and the posts are at the back, they can't be adjusted to touch the boat because the boat won't pass between them (middle...

    Engine overheating

Problem found! On the raw water pump (Volvo, on the crank pulley), there is a oil seal that keeps the water from flooding the bearing, and keep air out so the impeller can create suction. From what I read, when that oil seal fails, water goes out in the bearing. Only a few times water get...

Outdrive trim pump, where is the power source

Update on my trim motor repair; I took the boat out for the first time since my repair. The motor was working fine in my driveway. On the water, it was working fine at first, then, after forcing at the end of the down travel, it stopped working... for a while, then worked again. The only thing...

    Engine overheating

Chaparral 260 Volvo Penta 5.7Gi-D / Duoprop SP-SM I can't find the problem. The boat has been working fine last year. I winterized it like usual, and removed the outdrive for inspection and to change an oil seal. I reassembled everything this spring, and went last week end for the first ride...

    Electric windlass wiring problem

Chaparral Signature 260 2004 Hi all. On my boat with electric windlass, I have a 50A windlass breaker behind the battery switch door, PLUS a 50A glass fuse under the helm near the buss bars. The 12V from the fuse goes to the anchor switch UP-DOWN. Everything was working fine before I touched...

SX outdrive stuck or was now broke :(

What keeps your gear from being pulled is the inner race of the bearing #10. It is press fit, but not that hard. On a bench, only a hammer and tube is enough to make the gear move. So, try to find a way to pull on the gear, or pry, and it should go out.
