    Cavitation Burns

Only time I had it was back in 1971 with a Chrysler 85 hp. The OEM Aluminum prop had a funny shaped leading edge. When emanating from the root/hub interface, rather than the blade sloping back in normal fashion, it had a reverse "S" whereby the metal went forward and then assumed the normal...

Prop help 75 hp 4 stroke mercury

Trim definitely is a necessity to find the right combination to support the associated activity. Your new boat, besides being heavier may not have as good of a planing transom area as your old boat. Flat hulls at the transom vs hulls with significant dead rise at the transom plane much easier...

    Props, so many options

I have "run out of bravery" on occasions too. You start thinking about "what if"........and the answers aren't good!

    Props, so many options

I had a 3 blade 20P SS Laser II early edition (square vents) and replaced it with a 4 blade 19P SS Solace. Got the increased hole shot performance, good solid cruising performance (the goal) and only dropped from 49 to 46 at WOT which was a surprise........but speed wasn't the objective.

Turning Point brand Hustler commercials shows you the metallic structure cutaways of regular cast aluminum and their proprietary process. I would assume Mercury has a similar process.

Combatting Water/Damp Conditions inside of boat?

When the family was young and we boated often, getting in and out of the water by family members and their toys added a fair amount. I drained it after the events, hung everything wet out (elsewhere) to dry with hatches open and stored it in a garage uncovered, or if under a tarp tarp was open...

https://nypost.com/2022/09/28/hurricane-ian-wreaks-havoc-throughout-florida/#1 This is absolutely mind boggling. Where and how do you start the cleanup process? How do you personally survive if you survived the initial onslaught in the first place as things get cleaned up? I am totally taken...

Leaving Tampa, Osprey, Fort Myers ? ?

Enlarge or shrink as desired. Scroll over to area of interest. Expand and put cursor over point of interest and click the left mouse button. You will get a rainfall number for that location. I found 19" in central Fl., besides the coastal flooding from rain, not counting the storm surge...

    Props, so many options

So the real question prompting an answer before you go off in the wrong direction is: As you trim out (when in doubt trim it out....Fazbullet) and the RPMs are increasing, is the boat bow lifting out of the water and the speed increasing, or is the boat already pretty level, bow already out of...

    Plastic Tanks are All Junk

I have a couple of 6 gal. I bought at wallyworld and there is a tag on the tank or in the box that cautions against overtightening when installing the outlet fitting. Funny, the first one I bought 5 or so years ago and it had the outlet fitting attached. The one I bought this year, same tank...

1996 Mercury 30 HP Primer Bulb Routing

You probably have a fuel enrichment solenoid operated by the ignition key when in the ON-Start position and pushed in which is a starting aid. You didn't say what HP your engine is. On my 2002 90 and 115 at the top front of the engine (cowl removed) is a device about the diameter of a half US...

Need advice for getting boat on plane

Knowing your wide open speed and engine RPMs would help us to understand the problem. In looking at the position of the helm, with your essentials and the side by seat positioned where it is, I too think you are stern heavy and 40 doesn't have enough whoopie to get you up all that fast. Not...

1977?? Bumblebee boat seems like a lot of water pours out of it

If you don't use the LW and that is what it is, Walmart has plugs for normal transom drain holes that may/can/will fit that hole. I have 2 LWs in my current boat and do not use either. I did what I said and that was that. On the screened inlet I disconnected the hose at the rear of the plug...

Merc 150 Intermittently Bogging Down at WOT

While you are at it, get a new filter and cut your old one open to see if its clogged. You may be "un" pleasantly surprised at what you might find therein.

    90Hp torque spec

I find that manufacturers torque their filters and when you look at the instructions on the side of the filter.....3/4 turn after the seal touches the engine's surface, they were way too tight. I had a standby generator that had the case to mounting flange start leaking as a result of over...

Suggestions about boat not getting on plane and prop protection

My grand daddy had just such a boat, planked flat bottom, sealed with lead and Okum (spelling) cord, powered by a 10 hp Johnson back in the mid 1950's. On occasions when I visited, I would move to the bow seat and the boat would barely plane. When coming home in the afternoons, the wind...

    90Hp torque spec

If nobody hits on this I'll tell you what I do. When I buy something new it seems to be torqued to the published spec that the bolt/nut can handle without ripping the threads out or snapping off. I even had an oil filter on my Generac standby generator fail at the seam because it was torqued...

Fuses keep blowing at the battery

What does the fuse look like where it separated? If it looks like it melted and fell out of position you have something consuming excessive current, a hard to trace problem. Start by looking for corrosion on the fuse/fuse terminals themselves. If the fuse stays intact long enough, the problem...
