    Rec gas prices???

Not too many years ago Texas reversed the sign you see and realized that getting traffic moving actually saves gas and consumer commute time....when time matters on the paycheck. We have a sensible governor. Hope he keeps the same speeds as currently exist....its an election year and he is up...

    Rec gas prices???

Well that's the kicker because it does justify its increased price in my small engines, espcially 2 strokers that require 89, not 87 minimum per the owner's manual and as I recall my 115 2 stroke outboards manual....in the manual or not they still start faster and run better on 91 octane...

Outboard almost hits transom when trimmed up?

I had that problem once and when trailoring I always turned the helm all the way to the starboard side side since my control cables were on the port side of the engine. Problem some shallow draft, low sided boats have the splash pan set too high for the height of the transome clamp bracket...

Glastron GT-150 Ideal Prop for Slalom Skiing

70 HP isn't going to get you 35 mph for a slalom.

Short shaft motor on long transom

If I am recalling comments from the big guns on here the rule of thumb is 6"/inch. So that would put you out about 30" and would be similar to mud boats propulsion.

    Corrosion/coating on props question

The original OMC SST [Stainless Steel Teflon ( coated to resist corrosion)] was coated for that reason. I bought one when they first came out in 1973 and the coating worked. Apparently they didn't have enough Crome/Zinc in the mix and if you worked a lot of sandy shallow water and wore the...

Well I guess its time to flip the coin. Seems there's 2 sides to this story.

Nylon vs Polyester Rope for Mooring a Houseboat to Shore

My experience with the two materials is that Nylon stays the course but can stretch under pressure....not all that much but can and if that can't be tolerated then poly is the better choice. Knots can become un-tieable after heavy stress if that's a problem My experience with poly is that it...

    1989 xr4 150 that sat 3 years issues.

To clarify any possible confusion on Chris' comment: "All marine fuel tanks pull fuel from top of tank. Bottom tank fuel supply is inherently dangerous as bilge fills with fuel if a leak occurs." "The exit point for the fuel" is at the top of the tank, usually a circular flat plate gasketed...

    Jon boat hull difference.

The flat bottom John is the most stable when moving around. The flat bottom is ideal for river fishing or small lakes. They ride rough in a chop and are noisy when waves slap the hull. They plane out nicely with small engiens. The semi-V aluminum hulls, whatever the mfgr. chooses to call...

Stable Fishing Boat for a Big Man

Flat bottom, probably aluminum, 20' John boat as wide as they make. Put a 40-50 hp engine on it, power trim preferred and worth the money, with a side console and you have your boat.

Is my outboard direct fuel injected?

Yes Sir. Grin Just an old fart here killing time, binging up mostly forgotten experiences of the past trying to stave off "cabin fever" since I am a farmer and currently house bound due to the weather. And remembering the axiom, "the first liar doesn't have a chance". Grin #2.

Is my outboard direct fuel injected?

Well in my neighborhood there were 3 or 4 us us running 4 cycle mowers and besides cutting our grass we would push our mowers around and look for work. We'd mow (only) a city lot, roughly 65x125' for $3. One of the guys cutting in our area, not part of my circle of buddies, had a 2 cycle and...

Is my outboard direct fuel injected?

Well whack me across the knuckles with a ruler. If there is any truth to this unsupported clip I was wrong. You can't patent something that already exists although you might patent the adaptation of the process, not the process per se. Can't find any thing on the www to back me up but as an...

1990 Sea Ray 160, Mercruiser 3.0 with Alpha one gen 1

2 things working against you here. 4 blades have more bite and need more to drive them. 17P vs 15P the same...more to drive it. 2X wrong direction.

Is my outboard direct fuel injected?

Back in that time line, before Mercury redesigned the 115 HP 6 cylinder engine (to name an engine I had....an '88 model) to a "Loop Charged" 4 cylinder, the 6 cylinder was referred to as "Direct Charged". This is a carbureted engine (as others said) not to be confused with direct mechanical...

1990 Sea Ray 160, Mercruiser 3.0 with Alpha one gen 1

I would also recommend the 15P having had a 3.0 and easily running out of engine when pulling water toys and having several people on board. Since you didn't mention top speed as a requirement it made it easy to choose between the 15 and 17. The 17 would do a half assed job on both counts...
