    i remembered while i was using my multimeter to test for 12v while cranking. the only way i would get a reading is. with the red probe on the positive on the coil and the black probe on a bolt on the engine. not on the coil. shouldnt i get 12v probing the positive and negative of the coil.

    Ok I tested the positive on the coil while turning it over. I got 9v and no spark. So I ran a wire from the positive on the battery to the positive of the coil got 12 v while cranking and still no spark. I did it with both coils still the same. The original in still connected Could it be the...

    That is not what i wanted to hear, but its better than being fully attached to the starter. It will not be fun to get to it. The engine compartment is tight. Hopefully its not bad

    Is the starter solenoid built into the starter or is it a seperate part.

    Went to the boat today to replace the pickup and coil. the engine wouldn't start. didn't have a helper to man the key to test the bypass circuit. hopefully it doesnt rain and i can find a helper.

    i bought a new coil when i got the pickup coil too. so when i get a chance i will replace the parts on the motor.

    Rochester quadrajet carb. How many pumps do you give your engine at the throttle to get it started. I put a spark tester on the engine and the spark wasn't very good so I took the cap off and this is what I found. I ordered a new pickup. I cant get a serial number off the engine it is very tight...

    the engine that has the bad alternator has the power steering pump. I guess in the spring I will have to chase wires on both engines and se which engine is doing what.

    I have dual mercruiser 260's on my new to me boat. Do both engines normally have an alternator on them. I think one is bad just wondering if 1 alternator is enough to charge the batteries. Never had dual engines before so this is all new to me.

    the gaskets on the screws seals the screws for when the outdrive is submerged in the water you wont get water in the outdrive through the screws using muffs

    Are all Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 1 lower units interchangeable. We found a crack and water in the gear lube. There are no markings or stickers on it. the outdrive is on a 1986 sea ray 270 sundancer. With dual mercruiser 260's. We have an extra outdrive in storage that my son got for free...
