First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

Let's start with fluids: if this is a new-to-you boat, you need to do an engine oil & filter change (See your manual for the how-to). You also need to change your drive's gear lube (again, the Seloc manual will give you the how-to). Check your tilt trim fluid and fill. You need to change the...

    10 mph top speed

Is the prop hub spun? If it's revving out and you're not moving, that's a possibility too.

1968 Slickcraft 19 foot Just Purchased!

Make sure you support the outdrive. In my opinion, you're actually better removing it (doesn't take long). Removing those two bolts through the housing, and relieving the pressure off the worm gear should make it so that assembly (motor) comes out relatively easily. In reality those bolts are...

Looking for proper name for this drive

On your engine there should be a tag that has a model number something like "990234E MT" - that will tell you which model Stringer you have.

Exhaust manifold help. Dauntless 225 with Stringer outdrive.

Is that the closed cooling system on it? Or are you drawing raw water in?

New used boat getting the water flowing

^^^ LOL  I'm not a fan of the whale tails. Supposedly, they help lift the stern when you're on plane/planing and stabilize the outdrive. But, bow wander (as such) is normal. Learn how it works with your hull and don't overcorrect.

Neede help identifying OMC stern drive

You should be able to find the shop manual for your drive here: https://www.outboardbooks.com/ Dunno' about pullin' the shaft. I never dug into the lower that far.

No apologies ... guess how I learned about that number: ;)

1968 Slickcraft 19 foot Just Purchased!

Welcome aboard: with the electric tilt, you're most likely up against the tilt motor. It's on the port side, WAY back against the intermediate gear housing ... probably in a space not quite large enough for a 8 year old to squeeze into :D If it's the original '68 setup, you've got either a...

Neede help identifying OMC stern drive

I'll take the counter point: my first I/O purchase ever was a OMC Electric Shift Stringer. I was pretty much clueless on sterndrives, but picked up the boat cheap. Fortunately I came here for help, and a couple of guys gave me some tips. For less than $800 I had the boat all cleaned up, and...

Neede help identifying OMC stern drive

Nope. 983486 is the part number on the upper gear case for a Stringer 400. It's not your outdrive's model number. I think - but don't know - the other part number is a hydromechanical lower gear case; which is a different drive than you have. If the upper is rotating clockwise relatively...

Neede help identifying OMC stern drive

I don't think those are model numbers. Probably part numbers on the cases. Look inside the engine bay for a number tag. It should read something like "252STHRCRA 1984." Since it's in pieces, do you know that your engine turns free? And then do you know if the upper gear case turns free (by hand...

Best leather shoulder holster for daily concealed carry?

^^^ I have a little belt clip holster that works inside my belt. I tuck the .380 the small of my back and untuck the tshirt. That's been my best option. The 9mm will fit that way, but it's pretty uncomfortable.

Best leather shoulder holster for daily concealed carry?

I did a couple of very fun and enlightening "shooting from concealment" courses with a local sheriffs department. That's where I found out I didn't like that cross draw from the shoulder. I prefer a strong side carry, but that's often impractical for me - so, if not in the pocket, I usually have...

Best leather shoulder holster for daily concealed carry?

I've never liked the shoulder rigs. I don't care for the way you draw from them. Summertime is usually a pocket gun.

    VHF antenns

VHF is "line of sight." If a 4' antenna will keep a straight line to the station you want to talk to (ie - open water only) ... you should be good. Where I am inland, I would need more height to maintain signal. ^^^ that's all over simple, but catches the general rules.

New used boat getting the water flowing

"Bow wander" isn't unusual with I/Os. You may have to learn the boat a little more to minimize it. Sometimes trim can help, but with your steering type if it's fine when you throttle up then what's happening at lower speeds is normal. Learn to work with it, and try not to over correct. That's...

Electric shift stringer omc stern drive

'84 drive wouldn't be electric shift. Should be mechanical. BUT, if both are the same lower unit: pull your drive, stick your good upper on top of the good lower, reinstall drive after maintenance and enjoy. You can swap the entire drive if you know the upper and such is good on the other drive.
