    Volvo Penta V8-430-CE-M Overheating

Vids do not work on PC but did on my phone. The clear hose hooked to the output of pump I assume. What I saw was the 1763 movie file (on lake) showing no water flowing in the clear hose > was splashing around, but not flowing. And the 1758 vid (on hose) shows water flowing but not a full solid...

    Volvo Penta V8-430-CE-M Overheating

Its certainly worth a shot to try. To help keep the costs down, see if this gent has what you need, link. And if it is the pump, post getting the ‘new one’ installed you can send yours to him for a rebuild and thus have a spare. I was fortunate to be on Lake Powell back in 2008 before all the...

    Volvo Penta V8-430-CE-M Overheating

Here is the logic I used. Frist off, is the initial reason for overheating an unknown? This is very odd especially for a boat only a few years old and only used in freshwater. Also, the impeller melting is an oddity as well. I have never heard of them melting, breaking apart yes, but not...

    Volvo Penta V8-430-CE-M Overheating

Based on this, my best guess is the raw water pump. In brief if you have to block the drive for it to not overheat on the hose, it seems as if the only flow you are getting thru the exchanger is due to the pressure of the hose. I’ll write up more on the why I think this when I have some time.

    Volvo Penta V8-430-CE-M Overheating

This is tough one. When faced with ‘cannot figure it out’, I take a breath and go back to basics. Cleary it used to work fine. What changed? What service, parts, etc. were done, even if it was perhaps days before the issue. How do you know its overheating? Don’t take that the wrong way, but...

5.0gxi-gf circulation pump pulley bolt size??

Also, unless you have freshwater cooling, if you are replacing the circ pump be sure its marine grade and not automotive. See link

5.0gxi-gf circulation pump pulley bolt size??

I do not recall exactly, either ½ or 9/16 or a 12, 13 or 14 mm and I do not have access to my boat to check. What I do these days is take a few wrenches with me and try until I find a fit > it been a long while since I was working as a full-time mechanic and could look at a bolt and know the...

    Volvo Penta V8-430-CE-M Overheating

Others will have to chime in here as I am not familiar with these units but here is my guess: given only in the water but you checked the “full pick-up hose system” is it possible that due to the different positions of the fwd drive when on the trailer vs. in the water a crack opens up in the...

    Toon leak

While not a pontoon guy it occurs to me that if you can haul this out on a trailer, you can take some steps to check for water in the toons. Here are some suggestions: Put the tongue of the trailer uphill and pull the 2 drain plugs and the rubber stoppers at the top. Assuming you have already...

    5.0 GXi 2007 Metallic noise

Agree odd only at the 1500 RPM and thus may not be a bearing. As KJM suggested a vibration of some sort that hits its natural frequency at only the 1500. Like a loose heat shield on a car exhaust > only comes at certain speeds. So, got me to thinking what else could do that? Try the no belt...

Volvo Penta 5.0 EFI Ford (1995) Hard to Start When Warm

While I am not familiar with your motor, but since the gauntlet is down regarding no one else, I will take a stab. From your description it sounds as if it may be slightly flooding causing the extra long starting cycle. Given its EFI and its age, it may be your injectors leaking by after...

1991 Chris Craft Concept 167 staring issue

The parts cannon can sometimes be a viable troubleshooting technique (replacing parts until its fixed) especially when aged parts, like a starter, it’s better to replace proactively > sucks getting stuck out on the water and/or having to cut your boating season short! If you decide (or need) to...

BTW nice-looking boat, good catch and welcome to the world of boating! Please consider taking a boating safety course if not already done and have all the appropriate safety gear.

1991 Chris Craft Concept 167 staring issue

By using the screwdriver, you are bypassing the starter solenoid which may be the issue. In other words, the solenoid may work sometimes and sometimes not, which is not untypical for an older starter. Since this is an intermittent issue, you need to ‘catch it’ in its failure mode. Here is how...

    5.0 GXi 2007 Metallic noise

I was thinking that too but reluctant to suggest it as I am not well familiar with how rapidly the exhaust temps can rise without the raw water pump. Perhaps if this noise is always present when cold as well as warm, do this when cold but only briefly as suggested. If no noise without belt, then...

    5.0 GXi 2007 Metallic noise

I have a 2005 GXi and I have never heard a noise like that. Agree to be concerned. Hopefully it’s a bearing in one of the pulleys since it runs just fine. If a bearing, I have a saying: if you cannot find it, it will eventually find you! Given 1500 RPM is not too far off of idle I would try to...

Is this raw water pump serviceable?

Agree, replace the entire unit. One potential source for a rebuilt that can lessen the impact is at this link.

volvo penta 4.3 error MID 187 FMI 9 PSID 200

AlesVolvo, 12V Lead Acid Batteries (LAB) can be confusing with all the numbers. Any 12V LAB has 6 “cells” each capable of a theoretical maximum voltage of 2.2 volts for a total of 6 x 2.2 = 13.2V. A fully charged battery will actually have about 12.7V. And does not matter if the battery is 140Ah...

    Missing Anchor Bail

I searched around on the internet for an answer to your question. The prevailing answer was what I suspected: it’s a bad idea to not have one for two reasons: one it helps trap the anchor when stowed and it keeps the rode properly paying out and in. Think of it this way: in looking at your...
