Just Purchased used 175 Yamaha Outboard (Are theses good engines)

That's why many boaters using 2 stroke automatic oiling systems are removing them and going for 50:1 pre mix after some years of usage. There's no indication when those systems fails, will surely know after the motor has been already screwed up due to lack of proper internal lubrication Happy...

    Prop suggestions

At 5800 wot rpm the motor revs near its max range as loaded which is fine with current 3 blade prop. If the issue is the bow up attitude move some passengers up front, trim motor bit down from previous trim to compensate the ride and check if the problem bettered or was finally solved. Happy...

    Stall at high rpm!

Those internal sleeved fuel hoses doesn't work well, over time the internal sleeve will begin to degrade, break in pieces and restrict the fuel passing through the hose to the water separator/carb. Been there and drove me crazy with a motor using such type of grey fuel hose. Dismantled the...

Upper Water Tube Grommet Replacement 6hp 1985.

To understand, assume the powerhead was already removed from pan ? If so, what was the gasket condition mentioned in post 37. Dried, cracked, hardened, burned ? If so, must install a new one and seal it with Permatex on both sides. Happy Boating

    Outboard Jet Drive

The motor service should be standard as any other motor. To know more about the jet system as all motor brands works on the same principle and what are you going to get into check : https://www.tohatsu.com/marine/common/owners_manual/MFS35-40A-Jet_US_ENweb.pdf Happy Boating

Are 5800 wot revs achieved as loaded the max rpm range for that motor ? If having bow up attitude move more load/passengers up front. Prop diam is what the manufacturer wants to play with comparing equal pitch on a 3 or 4 blade prop. Happy Boating

    Long shaft vs short shaft

The cheepest Duroboat is the 12D model whcich is rated for a 15S shaft motor, the 12L is rated for a 15 L shaft but costs way more than the 15S. Which 15 HP brand motor, assume a tiller one will you be looking for ? If a short shaft motor isn't available can always install a 5 inch transom...

    Stall at high rpm!

The motor accelerates quite well, there's a small revving hesitation heard seconds before shutting down. Question : if the tank's cap is removed does the motor still drops dead at full hammer down ? If doing same will need to troubleshoot the entire fuel circuit tank to fuel pump to start with...

    Thermostat housing hole.

Can soak each carb with their needle seat in place, should soften any formed gunk if ever formed there. As the motor idles good, the idea is to put back all 3 Pilot's Screws at the same height position found defore being disassembled. If the carbs are not that gunked can soak the carbs in...

    Stall at high rpm!

If you have an air leak somewhere in the entire fuel circuit will also leak fuel when priming hard the fue bulb while using a portable fuel tank or when the electric fuel pump has build enough pressure in the entire fuel circuit. It's a simple matter of looking where the fuel flows from...

    Thermostat housing hole.

Welcome back Sir, If referring to the needle seats leave them there while being micro polished as in previous posted pics. After micropolishing the seats with toothpaste flush them well with any Carb Cleaner Spray. Don't forget to measure with a caliper the Pilot's Screws heights before...

    Stall at high rpm!

The M50D2 it's a simple 2 stroke motor which uses a simple mechanical fuel pump which sucks fuel from a portable fuel tank as the posted pic shows. That video is for troubleshooting fuel related issues on more complex higher HP 2-4 stroke motor which this one isn't. In this particular case the...

Upper Water Tube Grommet Replacement 6hp 1985.

Don't lose precious boating fun time trying to open the Service Manual to check info. The Gasket from the Exhaust Housing part No 0330564 is shot and looses water on to the pan. Remove the powerhead from its base and install a new one, apply sealent if mandatory. If not, grease both side with...

    Stall at high rpm!

Nope a 2 stroke Tohatsu M50D2 dosn't have an overheat alarm as there's no temp sensor installed on the cylinder head area, old technology with just a thermostat. Will be more inclined to having a fuel related issue or an erratic electrical component heating up and failing when at full throttle...

Upper Water Tube Grommet Replacement 6hp 1985.

Have you tried running the motor on muffs, barrel with cowl removed to check where excactly is the water coming out from ? seems the base gasket where the lower crankcase sits on is shot, anyway will need to install a new one if plan removing the powerhead off its base. Happy Boating

    Changing Gear Ratio...Prop Change Required

With option one at $ 1,700 brand new you count already with the current 21 pitch prop. With option 2 will need to add a higher pitch prop if the 1.98 GR revs the motor higher than with the 21 pitch. The extra cost $$$ will depend if going for an alum or an SS prop. With option 3 buying a...

    GPH Question

If you prop right that cube to run towards its max wot rpm range factory stated which is ? will need to throttle less to maintain same 3-7 knots while saving some gallons of fuel. The killer scenario is proping right the motor to push small/medium loads, other heavy loads as in pic or when...

    Changing Gear Ratio...Prop Change Required

If so, the current 21 prop pitch and the 1.91 gear ratio are doing their homework right, there's nothing to improve. Assume the 400 wot rpm difference was due to having one more/one less soul on board ? Happy Boating

Can you post pics of whatever connection there's from tank's fuel pick-up tube to Racor's fuel entrance and from Racor's fuel exit to the motor's entrance. Are hose barbs some sort of metal clamps ? When priming the bulb till firm with arrow pointing upwards there should be no fuel spills on...
