    Thing are a little different in rural MN lots of shade tree mechanics. I would prefer to have it rebuilt I love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning.

    Well did not really need a compression tester, pulled the 4th plug, the electrode was smashed flat. Question is a 1983 Johnson worth rebuilding? Or have rebuilt I should say.

    Went into town to see if the hardware store had a compression tester, no luck. How ever the owner went in the back and got his personal to let me use. There is a reason you pay extra and shop locally.

    Had an issue last fall with the motor losing power than not running. The boat has a built in tank so I replaced the fuel filter, the fuel pump and fuel filter. The motor would not start. I suspected an issue with the fuel pick up so I went and bought a 6 gallon can and plumbed that in the motor...

    Well at this point I will report if there is an issue in the fall, it's on. I have to get the boat in the water my son is coming up tomorrow and he wants to fire up the boat for a few runs down the lake. Unfortunately I will not be here for that 6:15 sunday morning flight.

    Never mind with a head lamp and my cheaters I see the groove, logic told me there would be no reason to have a snap ring under the screw but now I know.

    So I am doing my once a year add oil to the tilt and trim and in the bleed screw when I loosened a snap ring came out. Question does the snap ring go in before or after the screw? Do I need remove the purge plug to reinstall the snap ring or does the ring prevent the purge plug from falling out?
