    Make sure the base gasket is on correctly. It fits 2 ways and only one is correct you do not want it to cover any holes.

    Is the carb base gasket on correctly? Did you use the correct gaskets from the kit? Did you make sure the main Jet is clean? Is the low speed idle adjustment out about 1.5 turns?

    It ran good with the choke on because the main carb jet was plugged. The primer on that motor bypasses the carb and puts fuel directly into the intake. Put the float back where it was.

    No, I dont know why you would have adjusted the float. You may have a bad fuel pump diaphragm also. Which is why it is important to service those correctly with a quality kit.

    Mercury has 2 different connectors that look very similar. You need to find out which one you're uses. The serial # of the motor will tell you which one you need.

    You need the linkages for the remote throttle and shifter. You cannot use the tiller system for that. You also need to change the front bracket out. Where are you located?

    You need to replace the primer diaphragm. You should ave ordered a carb kit with the fuel pump and primer diaphragm. Did you make sure the check ball is not jammed in the spring under the primer?

    You also need the exhaust tuner.

    You do not care about idle timing. On muffs set the idle for 1100 rpm and if you have adjustable carbs set them at 1.5 turns out for a start.

    What did you use to seal it? You need to seal it with something like loc-tite 518.

    What is bad compression? I believe 1990 was the first yr for decompression holes.

    Ok I looked at mine and the 74-76 OMC coils should work. Are you sure you do not have bad set of points or condenser?

    What year is your motor? There was no 45 up in 1957. Does it have dual carbs? Does spark jump a 1/4" air gap? What is your compression? Have you cleaned the carb? Is the fuel pump Diaphragm in good condition? Fuel pump check valves good? And if it actually says McCulloch on the hood it is 64 or...

    Let me look at mine but I believe OMC coils work you just need to mount them. The 74-76 OMC 9.9/15 coils would probably be the best.

    Replace the cap on the oil tank and clean and re prime.
