Yeah those days are precious. What kinda boat ya got?

Is this trim end cap usable?

Idk, I bought an SEI replacement for $160 and am very happy FWIW.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Very personal decision based on health, age, retired or not, etc. One thing we can't change is time and it is indeed marching on. Tasks that I was exited about learning/doing 20 years ago now seem daunting. I'm finding the older I get the more the moon/stars have to line up before the boat...

Help value a Smoker Craft I’m looking at

Do a good inspection and come back and tell us what you found. Rotten floor? Transom flexing? Evidence of patches on rivet seams? Motor run on muffs ok?

Why is finding information on boats so difficult?

Looks like an awesome find! Stick with it. You're dealing with the recreational market where 90% of the clientele is people with expendable income. All wants, very few needs. They ain't built to automotive standards.

Time for my first bellow change, tips?

Install the exhaust tube instead of the bellows, much easier. That is...assuming this is an Alpha 2. Not sure about others.

    Spare battery

FWIW I added a second battery and two mounting locations, port and starboard but did not wire it up. The beauty of this is it allows it to be moved for ballast based on load. If needed I can run jumper cables to the port location or swap it out. Yes it takes a little effort but I love the...

Time for my first bellow change, tips?

Also, if you're going in for major surgery...how much side to side play is in the drive? Assess this situation before going any further. It would be a shame to go this far down the road and then a few years later wishing you had replaced the gimbal ring and/or steering lever when you had it...

    Boat Ramp Disaster

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't power unloading/loading in FL illegal?

Mercruiser 3.0 Alpha One Gen 2 Barrel

They must draw at least some because back in the day before I knew any better I used that stupid pan that attached to the lower unit where you pour antifreeze into. I guess it worked well enough because the block was ok next season. Guess i got lucky. Now in the internet era I get what you...

Alpha I Gen II Impeller Replacement

Consider getting the guide pins also. They hold the pump housing and new impeller in exactly the right position as you install it. This helps get the maximum use out of the impeller as it rides off center. Search for Achris's videos on YT.

Trailer guides with step in the way

I have side guides also. Tbh I don't think they do anything but get in the way when I'm cleaning/waxing. As long as I submerge the trailer just right the boat centers itself. I don't believe it's ever touched them.

    Carpet replacement

Carpet is a thing of the past in boats. It's all about EVA foam now. Strip the carpet and buy the foam panels off Ebay/Amazon. Peel and stick done. Probably go farther on resale also.

    AlphaOne Gen2 large gasket install

I use Permatex High Tack. I brush it along the surface where the oring lays. Easy clean up with acetone and a paper towel. I'm sure some gets on the aluminum ring also. As stated above, your job is just to make sure the oring stays in place during drive insert, as far as pressures in which...

    McGuire's one step compound

I go over mine every other year, or maybe every 3rd year, with Meguiars Power Cut Compound 91 and then Rejex. At 64 though it's getting very hard on the rotator cuff and thumbs. Mine does stay in enclosed storage. Looking forward to a tinny in the future.

    Am I under proped?

Rule of thumb is 200 rpm change for every inch of pitch. So if you drop 2 inches you may go up to 5400 rpm, not the direction you want to go. What QBhoy is saying above is the tach needs to be verified because something ain't sounding exactly right. Somehow verify the tach before proceeding.

    gas odor only when underway

Seeping fuel sender gasket or screws. Assuming your sender is toward the rear of the tank, which most are, when you plane off fuel runs to the back and puts it under pressure.

    Stupid question…

Did you put the key (small metal piece that fits in the slot on the impeller that lays on the flat part of the shaft) back on when you change the impeller? It's what turns the impeller.
