Did you test the switch or wires or is the polarity correct? Pump runs backwards when switch is deployed so check polarity.

Above is pretty clear. What I believe he's saying is "it will fit on the transom but if it's a new to you used outboard make sure it's reliable before you waste your time installing it. Did you get something different?

    Prestolite starter assembly

Your post is so long that I had a hard time following it. (Ran out of patience) Hot starter could be under voltage (did you test starter voltage while spinning it?) Gear not engaging is a sign that it's spinning to slow. Had one get hot on me just before it died....all things starters do.

    Help! Johnson seahorse 70hp 1988

Starter gear staying in-gauged is pretty common and not really a fault. Fast spinning fly makes the gear disengage once started. Not looking for a short but more like a resistance issue. Corrosion, bad ground very common or the solenoid is toast. All very easy to check. Since you have a volt...

Lower unit shift rod wont screw back in

Pictures are horrible. I had that same motor but never pulled the shifter. Pulled it because it was black? It's a two stroke! Racerone is your man and you questioned his integrity? I hate to say it but wrong move. Best of luck to you.

    Gear lube

To answer your original question. I use hi-vis but I have lots. If the motor was well cared for and wasn't used much then spend the money and buy that. If it's old and not well cared for just use automotive gear oil and change it more. A 50 year old motor only has so much time left. That's...

    2006 FICHT evinrude 250 HP

I'm not sure why anyone personally would buy a ficht outboard. Now if you have one and you hope to fix some small to medium issue and extend its life so be it but.....really? Buy a carbureted older one and find a good one. Dime o dozen.

Crank case leaking on 1990 evinrude 88 spl

If you end up needing to open up everything then the only answer is to do a complete rebuild. Why would you not when your already there. Now if your time is worth nothing and you don't mind having a dead motor on the lake/river/ocean then....... Otherwise I'd do what race says first, post...
