    Hi, I have a 1989 four horsepower deluxe. It has the locking and unlocking mechanism for the tilt but it doesn't seem to have a tilt lock when it's in the fully upright position. I went to the parts break down and I couldn't see any locking levers. Did this motor not come with one? Matt

    Motor turns over but won’t start

    I would take it out and do circles until it craps out on you and then do a spark jump test. If no spark then start testing components or broken wire/short.

    Must have been tired. To late to correct so I will do it here. Water in the oil, not oil in oil. Somehow water gets in the oil from the thermostat area. Anyone know the fix?

    A friend of mine got oil in his oil 2 years ago and someone told him a fix with his thermostat. He did that and ran it hard for 2 years (no water) and now it's back. I talked with my marine mechanic friend of mine and he said these early carbureted 4 strokes are junk. No parts from Merc but...

    Yamaha gearcase

    Hi, Looking for a decent deal on a 1996 Yamaha 2 stroke complete gearcase for a 50hp or matching outboard. Most of the salvage yards posted here are not even activated....must be old links. Tim's outboard in the Midwest does not have any. Any help will be muchly appreciated. Thanks, Matt

    Evinrude 40 hp primer not working

    Purple wire should be getting power from the battery. Bad wire or possibly a bad ground. Test and isolate the problem. Shouldn't be that hard.

    Yes, man overboard switch could cause spark loss. Best to purchase a spark jump tester.
