Need Help -Johnson 70HP 1975 Outboard Shakes

She sure sounds a lot better. You will be able to adjust the idle down while it’s in the water or even a barrel. You need some back pressure on the exhaust.

    1999 Johnson 90 hp -- No Spark

Just wondering when you say you hosed everything down was it a light mist rinse or a blast of water? You may have gotten some moisture that found its way into an unwelcomed area. Just a thought

    water/ fuel filters

I believe the thread pitch is pretty standard unless you have an odd ball. Most of the housing are pretty universal as well as far as seal size goes. Take a look at the underside of the housing and see if it has several groves on it to fit different size filters.

Take lots of picture while taking it apart so you have something to look back on. Lots of help here if you get stuck but I think you will find it not that big a a job. Best of luck.

    1992 E10RELENA won't go over 3k

A sheared key will throw your timing off. I have to say any advice givin by Racerone is well worth investigating. Has this been a problem since the carb rebuild or was it running fine at some point and then started giving you problems?

    1966 Johnson 20hp questions

sounds like the recoil needs service. If the dogs have old dried up grease on them they won’t be able to in gauge the flywheel. Pull it off and check things out.

    1975 25hp evinrude little spark

I would pull the flywheel and have a look around. Coils could be at the end if their life. Clean the points and see where that takes you. If you decide to move forward don’t for get the do a water pump service and check or change the gear case oil.

    Flywheel And Starter Jamming Up

It’s just like you said. Easy as that. Put the flywheel on dry as in don’t put any grease on the tapers. You can polish the tapers if needed with some 600 grit wet dry paper but you likely won’t need to.

    Flywheel And Starter Jamming Up

I know a guy that tried brazing the teeth for this problem. The time spent prepping alone was insane. In the end the repaired worked but it didn’t last long. I wouldn’t waste your money if you were thinking about going this route. You shouldn’t have to much trouble locating a new or good used...

    1979 35hp Johnson - smallest battery?

I once took a ride in a 19’ modified Glen -L design with a 235 on it. We topped out at 104 in the off shore grand pre amateur division and brought home 1st place. It was like riding on a pice of cardboard with a motor on it. Good times.

Johnson 70 overheating at high revs

Looks can be deceiving! If your not sure of the impellers age it’s best to replace it. They get brittle over time. It’s a small price to pay for peace of mind.
