Force 85 really difficult to start

I have not read through the whole thread and checked what you have done but go through Frank A steps, check choke butterflies, float levels, clean the carbs and check for spark at all 3 cylinders. The sparks should jump at least 3/8 in but 7/16 in is preferable. About you compression gauge I can...

    1986 35hp Force lower unit.

Water will come out at the "nose" at the back of the leg. There are two holes at the nose at the cover and it act as idle relief to. Most of the water come out at the exhaust outlet at the LU, just above the prop. There water flow from the nose can slow down when you start to throttle up in...

    T&T leakdown tests

No not need to have water to the impeller when checking for spark or compression check. I have never done that and the impeller will survive it. Much different when you try to start it and when it start. Higher RPMs and much more time running.

    Replacing spark plug boot

Well maybe you just fold the wire at that typ of connector. Some boot connectors you pierce the HT insulation some you have a pointed thread in the boot and you thread the boot to the HT wire. Depends on typ.

    1986 35hp Force lower unit.

Okey, I do not want to loose these two upper cause the rubber intend to dry and the vulcanization to the upper stud get loose and then you have to replace the whole rubber shock. Just to remember not to loose the stop nut at the shift rod for mor the 1/8 of a turn or just enough so you can turn...

    1986 35hp Force lower unit.

I mean the lower covers that holds the steering tube and is covering the rubber shock mount at each side the midleg. BTW I see in then pics they are removed. At this moment you should be able to tilt the leg or you maybe have to loosen the shock mount that are at the midleg facing at the...

    1986 35hp Force lower unit.

No MattC83 there are no easier way!! This is a really bad engineering. You have to remove the shock mount lower so you are able to tilt the leg/svivel. But if the engine been i salt water the bolts for the shock mount cover will be a PITA to unscrew. Large risk you snap them. I have worked with...

    Replacing spark plug boot

That boot kit will work. There are some different connection of the boot depending on brand, but all or almost all will work. Just make sure you pierce the HT well and get good connection with the core inside.
