Force 120 Outboard Low compression - rebuild it?

Remember, if you don't have (already) broken bolts and/or the gasket is not leaking; you don't need to take it apart to replace the pistons/rings etc.

lol you mean; 90% break and to get to them you ether pull the power-head or the bottom-cowl

    I bought it.. 1985 50hp

    Oh...that's different :)

    I bought it.. 1985 50hp

I never had a Merc. that was equipped with power-trim. but on others. I would raise it up and leave it there, check the next day to see if it dropped?? Maybe clean the motor?? check for a good seal where the motor meets he pump housing?

NICE!!!! I would not just clean the carbs. but also replace the diaphragms (fuel-pump) that way there will be no more guessing or harm done. Do a run-out on the shaft to confirm straight or bent?? and repair what you got :)

    Intermittent "cough" during startup.

And that...... (I'm sure) was what jerryjerry05 was referring to :)

    significance of same cylinder-pressure

There were my thoughts were going as well...the momentum would be thrown-off as there are un-even forces on the crank????

Good point! I don't have a test wheel either, but I do have test-tank and with a 15 P prop attached I can run it in gear at idle-speed to verify/adjust the RPMs

    significance of same cylinder-pressure

Thank you all that tuned in & taking the time to explain :)

how so? tied to the dock would simulate a "test-tank" correct??
  11. The Force power

    significance of same cylinder-pressure

Nope it's a new head gasket I'll explain; there's two used pistons/rings and one new in it, that's what's causing the different in pressures.

I don't know and I'm not sure to what this is referenced ?

    significance of same cylinder-pressure

What would be the long term effect of running 3 cylinder with 2 having 125 psi & 1 having 145 psi

Temperature, pressure, and the concentration of the oxidizer also influences flammability limits. Higher temperature or pressure, as well as higher concentration of the oxidizer (primarily oxygen in air), results in lower LFL and higher UFL, hence the gas mixture will be easier to explode. The...

Yes, it still can throw me for a loop

To add to the advice already given; - Tie the boat to the dock and check the actual RPMs in gear (it may running too low at idle) - Check all wiring connectors on the terminal-strip (they may look good but the wire can be broken under the shrink-wrap causing intermitted contact) -Check if all...

    1967 Sea King 6hp - Low Compression

There's a LOT of crud build-up, as Nordin said; inspect the cylinder-walls. Run your nails along the side-wall and feel if they catch?? If not I would start cleaning the gasket mating surface, be VERY careful to stay straight & flat !! with the sand-block. (or permanent damage will occur)...

    Reliability of 1998 25hp EH

I've been following the conversation and I don't know what a motor around your area is going for but I sold an Merc. similar age same HP for $1,050.00 CAD( with electric start & Controls) here in the Toronto area. So....in my situation: I would not pursue
