    Lead acid battery. Two questions

there are dual purpose batteries (starting and deep cycle). however generally starting batteries have thicker plates, deep cycle batteries have more thinner plates. using a deep cycle as a cranking battery works until the cranking load overheats the plates and they warp, shorting out your...

225BR hull construction vs. engine size... any differences?

You have to make test drills into the transom and stringers (from inside the bilge, about 2" up from the inside hull surface) Drill a 5/16" hole about 3/4 deep (8mm x 19deep) and look at the shavings. If the shavings are light colored, dry and smell of fresh cut wood. Seal the holes, you are...

Penta 280 outdrive to mercedes om648

5-cylinder VW 2.5 liter marine diesels are rated at 165hp. to get to 180, very slight boost in fueling is needed. most of the available electronic tweeks push it over 200hp https://www.ptronic.com/performance-chip-volkswagen-marine-tdi-165-5-165.htm

Penta 280 outdrive to mercedes om648

bolting the two together is the least of your issues. getting a GM V8 PDS housing for a 280 and the adapter you mentioned.... just money and wrenching the water cooled marine manifold and turbo housing is the hurdle that you need to clear first. the last water cooled one-off manifold that I...

    Rev limiter value

pretty sure the rev limiter in the software is near 5100 RPM. IIRC its a soft limiter on the EFI motors that simply starts cutting spark and fuel by a few cylinders at a time.

Penta 280 outdrive to mercedes om648

Are there marine exhaust manifolds for the old Mercedes. If not, consider a different motor. Water cooled exhaust and turbos are a must You will need to change the gearing in the drive for a diesel. The AQ130 are Volvo motors. Switching to a GM pattern is a different PDS housing

    2 Stroke Oil Thread

about 25-30ish years ago, after Dad left Manitowoc Cranes, he worked in the test lab at Tecumseh working on 2-stroke motors for both small outboards, lawn and garden and industrial applications where they were testing various gas/oil ratios. he did the pre-assembly inspection, and did the post...

225BR hull construction vs. engine size... any differences?

the 5.7 and 5.0 are dimensionally identical. a BBC is a bit wider, and a bit longer, however the motor mounts in the same space the hulls are all pulled the same from the mold these days, I would look long and hard at a 6.2 LS motor before I spent money on a big block. before you go looking...
