    You really can't over torque the center bolts. The bolts will break above 20 ft-lb

    Your valve cover is most likely bent. Generally the center bolt valve covers do not leak

    the fact that there is bottom paint in the cracks suggest this has been that way for a long long time and the owner knew about it. even if it is "just fairing" water has most likely gotten into the open fibers.

    thats not fairing coming loose, that is a breach to the hull and the transom is cracked.
