    no its not normal. that is the y-pipe in your picture most likely the bellows are leaking. pull the drive ASAP and service the bellows. you may have to replace the gimbal bearing and u-joints if the bellows has been damaged for more than a very very very short time

    3.0 liter motors were NEVER used in automobiles. they are one of GM's industruial motors find another 3.0 marine motor to drop in its place. the 3.0 is the entry level I/O motor. when it comes to 3.0 liter marine motors, 1991 is the dividing line. find a 1991 or newer and it will drop...

    I use Moeller zinc dichromate primer (rattle can) Followed by an epoxy primer (touchup gun) and then base coat and a final coat of clear I do not moore my boat, those that do can comment on layers of bottom paint.

    check all the cylinders. and yes, a leak-down test is needed. should be about 150 psi in all the cylinders
