    Mercruiser 3.0 PCM-09 Code 3050

Yes, not good. Looks like you need a new catalyst and then will need to determine why someone took it out.

    Mercruiser 3.0 PCM-09 Code 3050

I don’t think those numbers will show up until you get into full PID and I don’t see anywhere that has happened yet. Most testing on these engines requires that the engine be running at the speed and load the fault was set at. I would also recommend that you use the record function in Diacom...

    Mercruiser 3.0 PCM-09 Code 3050

Your welcome. On this forum, many people try try to be helpful and share the things that worked for them. But most people don’t realize how much engines have changed. Years ago I used to do a cylinder balance test by putting on a welding glove and pulling spark plug wires while the engine was...

    Mercruiser 3.0 PCM-09 Code 3050

Anything is possible with the thermostat failure. But it looks like the manifold only got to 214 degrees, don’t think that’s going to kill the cat in a short amount of time. I wouldn’t recommend opening the Cat housing just yet. It doesn’t appear that the engine has been run enough to complete...

    Mercruiser 3.0 PCM-09 Code 3050

Unless you have seen good catalysts vs bad cats, it might be a good idea to post some pics of what you find. You need to look at both ends, different faults can burn one end or the other and sometimes both.

    Mercruiser 3.0 PCM-09 Code 3050

We were told in school that you can flood the cat with unburnt fuel or too much oxygen. This is dependent on RPM, load and amount of time doing the test. What engine you’re testing will need to be considered also because of the amount of catalyst material present. 3.0 has one cat, 8.2 has 3 per...

    Mercruiser 3.0 PCM-09 Code 3050

Noticed earlier that someone recommended running a injector kill test. I wouldn't recommend running this test on a EC engine without proper training ---- can cause some pretty good damage in a hurry! Same goes for spark kill test.

    Mercruiser 3.0 PCM-09 Code 3050

The report you posted looks ok because you’re not running the engine at the speed and load required to get the catalyst monitor running. VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!! Need to run the engine under load at 1800-3000 rpm. You want to keep the throttle setting constant while running. Code SPN 521009 FMI...

    Fwd-b1 oil change

oil change is pretty much the same, except the drain plug is below the props near the front of the drive. refer to your owners manual or use this link to download a free copy https://www.volvopenta.com/en-us/service-and-support/your-engine/manuals-and-handbooks/ props are held on with the...

VP 5.7 Gi-J three or 4 sparks only

@Aerodyna Thank you for posting the resolution! And of course I'm glad you got it sorted out. A bad CKP out of the box from Volvo is very rare. Aftermarket not so rare. Was this a OEM part?

    Antifreez

The -50° pink stuff cracks a lot of water distribution housings here in MN

    Antifreez

Please note that a few years ago MerCruiser changed from recommending antifreeze for offseason storage to it is now required for offseason storage. -50° pink antifreeze will freeze solid at lower temps, but it won't expand enough to burst a copper pipe until it gets colder then -50°. That's why...

    EST1 Open

That wasn't a very good manual. 90-8M0160555 JANUARY 2020 Is much better. $31.00 and worth it. Your manual page 3A-14 has the wiring diagram for the coil harness. check for battery voltage and a good ground where they should be and check all the wires for continuity. If everything is good...

Might want to try the trouble shooting tree in the service manual. If I remember correctly it will have you test for voltage and continuity in a few places. I’m going off of memory here. There are 3 revisions of the ECM 555 manual. At least one of them will have the reason as to why this code...

    Changing props

Yes, I've done it many times. Tie a rope to the wrench and your wrist so you don't drop it. And be careful about not losing the thrust washer.

    Water when pulling stern drive

This isn't correct. The big o-ring is the most important part in keeping the bellows dry. The paper gasket is secondary. As long as the water that came out of all 8 u-joint bearing wasn't rusty, you are probably ok. Same for the gimbal bearing.
