Seasonally changing Mercury 110 spark plugs

Fish finders run on very low frequencies. Your outboard runs on 3x that range at idle and 30 times it at top end. If you get interference it would be little specks showing up on the display....something like little black or white dots spaced out, like when it starts snowing outside.

Cant get new boat to plan out

I rented a 16' Carolina Skiff, may have been a CC, with a 60 Merc. one summer in S. Louisiana. It didn't have instruments but it performed well enough. Hole shot (getting on plane) was ok but in making the long runs from the marina to the Gulf, I could have used some more ponies to get the...

    Stringer rotten

Some boats of that era used the air space between the hull and the deck (floor) as the flotation device. As the boats got older water would find its way into that space (BTDT). I was boating when Terry was popular around here and they weren't top of the line bass boats (opinion based on...

Stalling at Idle and Idle Speed

I see 4 possibilities: Fuel line from tank to engine including bulb which these days has gotten to be a big problem after the EPA stuck its nose into the mfgr. of that line, fuel filter in engine clogged, RPM set too low, old fuel lines (23 years old) with leaks either within the hose or at the...

Any 1/8" brass plugs screwed into the rear water jacket covers where the spark plugs are located?

Possible purchase of 73 Chrysler cadet

Check out the weight in Jimmbo's post......225#. On windless days great, but here in N. Tx. the wind blows pretty much constantly. And what happens when you cross a boat wake, especially the ones that create the wakes for surfboarding????????

Possible purchase of 73 Chrysler cadet

Not familiar with a Cadet. In 1971 I bought a new 16' Chrysler Sports Fury tri-hull with an 85 hp Chrysler engine. My overall assessment of the boat is that it was made from minimum materials and used a lot of "Chopper Gun" glass rather than adequate "Woven Roving Glass Matt. Also, being...

    Prop, or Engine Issue?

Well sir, I didn't get a manual from the owner, never thought about it, and didn't frequent dealers. I was busy helping my wife raise 4 kids, going to school, and working a stressful job....that paid well. On the boat, you get home from church, change clothes, load up the kids and gear, stop...

    Prop, or Engine Issue?

I don't know if you would classify the 70 HP Johnson 3 cylinder Looper a large engine. If that engine had one the PO nor I were aware of it......like I said, I knew little about outboards back then and had no manuals.

Prop spinning out on a 45 Honda

SWAG: Boat is barely on plane if at all. Engine height may be too high for the engine boat combination. Prop is sucking air rather than water due to increased load.....point of least resistance. Once you determine WOT RPMs, if below the top end of the recommended RPM range, dropping pitch...

    2001 90-HP Merc dies

Disconnect the wiring harness in the engine. Install a new fuse. Turn the switch. What happens? If it holds its engine related. If not it's a boat wiring problem. I had a 2002 90 and it only had one 20 amp fuse internally. Nothing in the service manual about any 30 amp fuse. Another clue...

    Waterski prop advice

I have about 4 TP props for different applications. I don't think you can beat them for an aluminum prop. On the 35 MPH skiing speed, BTDT and when you "crash" it hurts bad enough at that speed. Wouldn't want any more pain so I limited myself to that top end.

1993 Evinrude 70hp Missing Prop, Seeking Recommendations

Back when the family and friends spent a lot of time on the water, the 3 cylinder 60 and 65 HP OMC engines were running 15P props on their family's 15' lightweight fiberglass boats with pretty much non-veed transom area for boating and water skiing. I agree that totally shooting from the hip...

90hp Merc 3cyl reaches 3000RPM but takes awhile to go over 3000RPM

Having had a 17 1/2 FT aluminum Fish Master Bass Boat with a stock Merc 90 with the 2.33 ratio and a Ballistic, 13+" by 24P Ballistic 3 blade prop. you have a picture of the performance in my Avatar kissing 50 MPH at 5700-6000 RPM, about 800' of altitude on a cool spring morning. Unless you...

Sounds like time for an engine overhaul. You should be up around 120 PSI for rated performance.

    Waterski prop advice

I started water skiing as a young teen behind a 13' wooden boat with an 18 HP Evinrude with a stock prop. If you need help with a 225 HP, you indeed need some help. With that sarcasm said, you can't expect a 70 MPH Cleaver design to give you a good hole shot and provide a good pulling platform...

    Changing throttle styles

Mercury/Quicksilver Commander 3000 is an in bulkhead mount, hidden cables with a single lever and no fast idle to lift like the Commander 2000 that mounts on the bulkhead with the cables exposed and a visible lever to lift for fast idle. To get fast idle with the 3000, With the lever in N, push...
