    My boat in saltwater

When I was growing up I fished both types of water. I only had one outboard boat and non galvanized trailer but had 2 sets of fishing tackle. One reason was the different baits for the different types of fish but the main reason was the salt attacking the box and contents plus the rods and reels.

    My boat in saltwater

Your trailer will be the main concern, especially the wheel bearings. Folks in S. Texas usually buy galvanized trailers for longevity and either have a live axle whereby the grease flows through the spindle, or have at the least Bearing Buddies.

Is it possible to sail from mexico to texas currently?

Last thing I read concerning Texas ports was that Governor Abbott was toying with the idea of inviting some of the container ships sitting idle in the Pacific rim to come to Texas to unload.

    More testing on Sharrow prop...

My latest prop purchase, SS 4 blade Solace 13+x19 was $275 free shipping. Works great with WOT single digit slip, 115 Merc on 2002 Crestliner 1750 Fish Hawk.

Alumacraft 14ft Weight and Motor Capacity

Back in the '60s a 14' Alumacraft, model number unknown...we didn't deal much in models then....you saw a boat, liked it, had the money, and drove it home thing..... with the one piece hull with rounded chines, 3 bench seats and a very modest side, very modest console mounted to the gunwale on...

    Prop Question

Once you get in a range of props, like 13+ for 75-125 hp engines and 14+ for 135-250 engines for a couple of examples, whereby the diameter is limited by the allowable distance between the prop shaft and the Anti Vent plate, the change in diameter has to do with the blade shape and geometry...

    Long or short shaft

Those engines sit low. I had a 1956 18 Fastwin I bought new so I know. Get any vintage sales brochure and check pictures of those old OMCs sitting on a trailer with the engine in the normal running position. You'll see the AV plate below the bottom of the transom. I never dug into the...

    Permatex Aviation Gasket Former.-

For metal to metal head gaskets I always use Copper Coat product, in aerosol or brush/can......made especially for the purpose. Agree aluminum framed Silicon gaskets get no sealer in casting matings., one application comes to mind, Feldpro intake manifold to engine block/head interface gaskets...

Evinrude 130HP switching from 3 blade to 4 blade

OT...... in following along with your postings over the years, for a guy who apparently has an advanced degree or so in engineering or math, your Avatar/Handle just blows me away. Apparently you quit the rat-race and decided to do what you love. Good for you.

Evinrude 130HP switching from 3 blade to 4 blade

Ski boats around here, including Ski-Nautique use 3 blade bronze. Old period Chris Craft and such running Greymarine 6 bangers ran 3s also. Never saw one with a 2 blade...but that's here and you are there. As the old TV show goes: "Different Strokes for Different Folks". Grin

    Will carport help mold/mildew issues?

I think anything containing Chlorine is a must for initial prevention and subsequent clean up. I keep my boat in my shop but the buildings on my farm get an algae buildup on the North sides, regardless of material. I spray with soap and a good amount of bleach in water solution and by the 3rd...

1992 6 hp 2 stroke dies when reeves increased

Running out of fuel would be my guess. Clean carbs, change internal fuel filter if it has one, disconnect fuel line at the engine and either remove the connector or hold it open and squeeze the bulb and see if you get a goodly amount of fuel out of the hose. Engine that old may need new fuel...

    No Power When Cold - 1985 50HP

Agree on 3 new coils. On the resistance, copper is very temp sensitive as to resistance per unit length. If it was a winter day, I wouldn't worry about it. At least you have continuity and the Stator is made up of laminated iron, copper, and epoxy....not much to go bad there.

1970 River Queen Houseboat new owner here!

Beth, I admire your spirit. Think the worst and be happy for the best. Having done a fairly large restoration with a limited budget, no experience, and few tools, I can tell you the journey is worth the result. Besides any job done to your best is self fulfilling. Go get 'em gal!

    No Power When Cold - 1985 50HP

A Ferrite around a high speed circuit (wire), like a CDI that dumps the capacitors in microseconds (0.00000X seconds), is placed there to "choke" the harmonics and radiated energy from the wire helping to prevent radiation to other parts that don't like electrical interference caused by high...

    Mercury Oil drain plug size

14mm is the thread OD. 1.5 is the thread pitch....1.5 mm penetration per revolution......that's a coarse thread (comparing to SAE coarse-fine type ratings) for that small a thread.

    Who has installed Helicoils ?

Well the coil has to remain in the tapped hole so it is deliberately designed as an interference fit. With that said, if its a certain length relaxed, and stretches for an interference fit, then obviously they will be longer installed than sitting on the work bench. They come in different lengths.

Evinrude 130HP switching from 3 blade to 4 blade

"The less blades on a prop…the more efficient it is. This can’t be argued with. When comparing like for like." That's why Karl equipped his engines with 2 blade props with lots of surface area....till the Phantom Black paint and 3 blades, Merc. 1000 first production 100 hp 2 stroke outboard...

    No Power When Cold - 1985 50HP

I don't know if those Classics of later design used Capacitor Discharge Ignition (modules) or stayed with the conventional points and coil. At idle you can be missing out on half your cylinders and not realize it. The surge you mention tends to lead me to ignition....a plug is trying to fire...
