Model # of this motor ?----Is it another crossflow with the dreaded broken piston ring syndrome?----Easy to rebuild a crossflow and better pistons are available.----You need 4 O/S pistons in my opinion.----And determine the cause of failure or you might need to do it again!
Newest " parts " motor I have is a 25 HP 4 stroke.-----Stripped gears and owner gave up on it.-----That old 25 HP 2 stroke is very durable and will live for many years with proper care.
I believe the most efficient RPM for a big 2 stroke is around 3600 / 3800 RPM.----It was that way for me with a 1966 Johnson 100 HP.-----Your results may vary.
Poppit valve should open at full throttle for increased water flow.-----Inspect that item.-----That motor was the same for many years.----A factory manual from 1980 to 1988 will suffice.----Best read some books.----Many new owners have learned about motors through an empty wallet.-----Mistakes...
The water coming from the tell tale ---DOES NOT---circulate through the engine.----It tells you that water pump is working.----It does not mean that engine is cooling properly.----The overheat sensor goes to ground to sound the alarm.----If there is a bare wire somewhere the horn could...
Compression test.----Post the actual values.----Blown head gasket can cause overheating,---Easy to do.-----Or ground in wiring harness setting off the alarm.-----You should have installed a new impeller when you bought this motor.
There is no need to buy any new fuel pumps here.-----They are so simple and reliable but much misunderstood in today's world.-----A new diaphragm is usually what I do.----Just did that on 2 little square pumps , found on smaller Johnson / Evinrudes.
????-----The job of the pulse limiter is to protect the VRO pump housing from PRESSURE spikes !!!----It is a " flow fuse " and it closes when it sees a large volume of air coming at it.---It has a reed valve inside it.-----Therefor they called it a PULSE LIMITER !
The proper fuel pump for this is mounted directly over the PRESSURE pulse port on the side of the top cylinder.----Only uses 2 hoses.----Fuel in and fuel out.-----Remove pulse limiter and plug that port !
