    early vs late Cobra bellows.

yep it is totally different, it is a Volvo so you have to do it the Volvo way. just remember your Cobra is really a Volvo just paint it silver I won't tell anyone lol.

meant to post the oil analysis in your other thread!

It's the same tool for OMC Cobra, Merc and Volvo SX

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

What’s interesting is that no water showed up. It didn’t on mine either but they were done before the head gaskets really leaked. I’ll post mine up too. I do love those old cast iron 4.3s. They can take a beating!

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

Also whether the deck needs replacing or not I’d strongly consider ditching all the carpet on the deck. When I re did mine in 2006/2007 I had the deck gel coated in non skid gel coat & threw out all that nasty moisture trapping carpet. 17 years later (boat is stored outside all the time, but...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

Agreed I think you did the right thing paying attention to a warning sign and doing something about it. In that same vein I think it is a good idea to do oil analyses on new or reman or repaired engines each year, to see trends in wear metals, water intrusion, fuel dilution and if the oil you...

    early vs late Cobra bellows.

PS checked just to see, that the BRP part number for the driveshaft bellows is the same for the dog clutch drives (86-93) and joint venture drives (94-98) part number 3854127

    early vs late Cobra bellows.

I think at one time the dog clutch Cobra & the SX Cobra which was later called the Volvo SX used the same exact part for the bellows. Then at some point Volvo changed the part to a different style with a stiffer center section. On the 1995 I’d use whatever OEM bellows BRP sells for that model...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

A couple of old pix from 2006. Not the greatest job but my first one. The dark framing is Mahogony, which is very rot resistant. I would coat the foam with epoxy if you do it this way. The gas tank mounts were cheap pine that were all rotted and let the gas tank start to move around! That...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

It will surely be interesting to find out where the water is getting in. It can be a tough problem to solve. What kind of cyl head gaskets were used in the rebuild I wonder? And did they use sealer on the cyl head bolts like you're supposed to? I like Fel Pro Marine gaskets on these engines...

2003 Chris Craft Launch 25 - VolvoPenta engine replacement - need engine advice

I would evaluate just what needs replacing. what happened to the engine? do you need a complete new engine? depending on the damage (overheat? water intrusion? etc) you can often re-hab one of these simple Chevrolet small blocks with a set of remanufactured cyl heads and new exhaust. That's...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

I also used the 2 part foam on mine don’t remember the brand because it was so long ago. When you pour it the temps have to be at least about 70 degrees and you must do it in such a way that the excess can escape or it will pop the deck you just installed right off. I poured mine before...

2003 Chris Craft Launch 25 - VolvoPenta engine replacement - need engine advice

Whatever you do don’t get talked into cat converter exhaust it will inevitably greatly increase repair costs. And definitely not required on a 2003 repower

One of the best sources of Quadrajet information and parts is Cliff's High Performance Quadrajets they have a forum where you can ask questions and also sell parts. I hope that carb is not a "frankencarb"! that's what Cliff calls some of them that were pieced together from several different...

Nice older FW I think if you're up for it, worth the rebuild, nice cuddys are hard to find.

    Trailer ladder?

I got this simple folding/adjustable step for mine. I climb up on the spare tire and use that to climb over the bow. Works fine for me so I can launch/retrieve by myself. Not as good as real steps but it's ok for now.

EZ lube hubs and cold water

to the OP post up a pic of what you've got With the easy lube system it is possible for those rubber caps to leak. I usually coat the groove where it fits onto the tin cover with grease, that keeps out the water. Also recently I got a pair of bearing buddy bras to put over the tin covers &...

    2001 Maxum 2400 sc for 13k v 1995 FourWinns 238 vista

I see a reference to Huntington Harbor, if that's Huntington, Long Island, one of my boating areas, I can tell you that salt water issues need to be carefully looked at, namely exhaust manifolds & elbows, and if those are the original engines, they could be way past their prime, if they were...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

And one of my pet peeves because I live in a damp climate is carpet over a wood cored deck. It causes rot because it will never dry out when it gets wet. The first thing I did was throw out all that carpet. The deck was coated in non skid gel coat and it’s still solid 17 years later. Boat is...

Boston Whaler Key West & Everglades among others here in the USA advertise full foam flotation as a safety feature. I don’t have experience with these brands long term although you hear stories of foam filled boats absorbing moisture & gaining weight. Btw when I pulled the foam out of my boat...
