Volvo 5.0 gxi Stalls at idle. Hard start.

Is your PCV valve working? Is it a new problem? Any work done on the engine before that?

    Is the buddy heater safe?

A diesel heater (forced air) will provide more heat that you need, and it will be dry heat, which makes a big difference. It can be a portable unit or a kit to permently install inside the bilge if the boat is big enough. Exhaust is routed outside, only the heat is routed inside, so a lot safer...

    Can't read MIL

alldodge, I took this information on the Rinda website for their CodeMate device. But I didn't read correctly (french brain). With only IGN ON, it is a test light, and if it remains ON during start up then there is a MIL. I can't start the engine right now because I removed the injectors for...

    Can't read MIL

2004 Volvo Penta 5.7Gi-D / MEFI4B When I connect a LED on my DLC and turn the IGN ON without starting, the LED is ON which indicates that codes are presents. I then jump A-B to get the codes, and only 12, 12, flashes continiously, whick is 'no fault'. I Know if I clear the codes the LED will...

    what is that sensor?

I did disconnect it, but I was watching the digital readings from the gateway on my phone and saw no change. Of course I was not looking at the gauges :)

    what is that sensor?

Thanks. I tought the gauge sensor was on the SB side of the block at the valve. I will have to check again what it looks like.

    Overheating, again

Update. Thermostat was bad. It is a new thermostat that I changed 3 years ago (non Volvo) so it was the last thing I suspected. I'm lucky that I kept the old one in the boat ... It was good, but changed as preventive maintenance. So, if it ain't broke, don't fix it LOL.

Spring 2022, first ride, overheat. Troubleshoot, change again the RWP seal. There was rust on the shaft After...

    Question on my anodes

So if I want to go in freshwater and saltwater without changing anodes, I should go with aluminum?

    Question on my anodes

Volvo DP-SM From the picturres below, are my anodes aluminum, magnesium or zinc? I don't think it is zinc from the color. Are they still good? The ones on the outdrive look OK to me. The ones on the trim tabs, I don't know, seems more than 50%. I boat in fresh water, but plan a trip of 5...

    Windlass struggling to pull rope

I have the exact same problem as you have. I found that if I press the black plastic finger over the line, it grabs very well. I also found that when the line piles up in the small compartment the tension is lost on the windlass and it slips. Since I boat alone sometimes, I bought a wireless...

    No beep when key turned

Look at your safety lanyard. It will do that if there is a problem with it. Or if you don't have one, check the ignition key, and wiring related to ignition 12V.

    Water inlet in engine bay?

Be careful. Volvo used 2 routing setups for this flush port. On earlier engines, that port was used to flush the engine with the engine stopped since the port was after the impeller. On later engines, this port is before the impeller, so, it is possible to run the engine with water on that...

    Florida marinas occupancy rate

I'm planning to spend 5 months next winter in Florida with my boat. Around Fort Lauderdale or Hollywood. Am I late or early to start looking for a spot? I know that campings are already full for next winter, but was wondering if it was the same for marinas.

    What is this? Volvo throttle.

If you never had a kill switch at this location, it may be a provision for a futur install, blocked by a plug, that got lost at some point. My Volvo shifter has the kill switch but just below. On the picture, I removed the switch to replace it with a new one.
