    With a bit of fuel in the cylinders it should have roared like a wild lion.----Does spark jump a gap of at least 3/8" , yes or no ?----What are the actual compression values ?

    I would say you have no spark or spark at the wrong time.----Tried switching plug wires ?

    I think something is wrong with firing order / wrong distributor cap / plug wires going to wrong cylinder.

    Start motor in the water.-----Pull one plug wire at a time.-- Note difference in RPM / sound.---Sounds like plug wires are not hooked correctly.

    Once again this depends on what gearcase is fitted on your motor.-----It could be a newer gearcase or older gearcase.-----Or even a V-6 gearcase.----Pictures , pictures can help you get the answers you are seeking !!

    Wires can be so confusing !-----But many of those white control boxes had a kill switch mounted on them.----So easy to do in my opinion.

    ??---A strong 1/8" could really not happen.----Motor would have quit long before that.---The cylinder head was warped.----Did you refinish it before installing the new head gasket?

    Not much can go wrong with a carburetor that warrants replacement.----Unless it was molested by water or attacked by an owner.------What is/was your motor doing / not doing ?
