Advice on Gas Cap for vintage Gas Can

Try Doug Penn for a cap. It will most likely be a used part. Laing's outboards for a gasket set for the OMC tank after you take it apart. If you luck out and the horn is merely plugged, you're good to go. If you need a new pickup horn, or a new cap if the vent is shot, cost will add up. My...

Bow of boat hits winch when loading onto trailer

When you crank the winch handle to load the boat which way do you turn it? Clockwise or CCW?

Advice on Gas Cap for vintage Gas Can

If you do find a cap, it would probably be in just as bad shape, or if its an NOS it would cost way more than its worth. Just buy a new can.

    Beware

How does the old saying go? Age and treachery beats youth and wisdom every time.

    Ranger 2021 VX1888

My Boston Whaler and my SeaRay both came with comprehensive manuals, including plumbing system and electrical diagrams. They were written specific for my model. In addition to that, both dealers INSISTED on a sea trial before they would release the boat. Part of the trial was to go over every...

    Whats the best hydrofoil

Back in the day Trailer Boats Magazine had very informative articles geared toward guys with boats just like ours. I was already an "experienced boater" at that time, having experimented with different props, motor height, etc. Their "shootout" article on fins was what made me try one. That...

    Whats the best hydrofoil

Personally, I prefer the Doel Fin. It was the first on the market and has been copied but not duplicated. After having over 50 boat year's experience on multiple boats I won't own a boat without one. The caveat is that performance on an I/O is iffy, and to optimize the performance on an OB...

Where is the lowest prices for new outboard engines?

I have bought 3 motors in recent years from onlineoutboards.com. The price was better than I could get anywhere else and the service was awesome. They all came Fedex in about 3 days. I didn't check recently so I don't know what current availability is.

    Kicker motor questions???

My local Starcraft dealer sells a lot of fishing type boats that are rigged with a kicker. They are all rigged with electric start, throttle and shift controls, plus a steering bracket connected to the main. Some even have power trim, so you never have to leave the helm to put her in action...

    Oddball outboard ID

Probably an Eska or a Clinton, but it could also be a Sears. There should be a model and SN stamped somewhere.

    Marquis Mystery

Marquis had 2 boat factories back in the day. When they went out of business, one of the former principals bought the Hartsville, SC plant and opened it back up under the the new name Stingray. The rest as they say is history. If you look at some of their last models, the Stingray resemblance...

    Convertible Top

We had convertible tops for 40+ years. Never thought the screw knobs or the few snaps were a problem In 2017 our new boat had a bimini. I like it s lot better, but I find taking it down is a real pita. As far as deployment the conv is better

Why is it too low? Can you not see thru the windshield?

    Convertible Top

Our last boat had a conventional convertible top. It was secured on the gunnel with QD clips. If I wanted to take it down, there was a second set of "clips" further back that allowed it to lay down over the aft deck. No storage compartment behind the engine. In 99% of the cases I simply put...

    Used 40hp two stroke value?

Go to any marina and all of the new boats come with 4-strokes. That's partly because the govt outlawed 2-strokes. Also, at all those marinas the pickins are slim. With boat loans out to 15 years and covid changing what we do, boats are in high demand. I/Os are not in favor any more either...

    2021 G3 touch up paint

I had the same problem with a classic car and all of the normal sources didn't go back that old. Take the boat to an auto paint store. They can put a scanning device on the hull to come up with a perfect match, and then formulate a bottle of touch-up paint for you.

Transferring fuel from truck to garage to dock to boats (PITB)

Not including the containers, 24 beers weigh 20.3 pounds, while 5 gal of gas weighs 30 pounds. Plastic gas can vs. metal can, beer cans vs beer bottles...I guess the relative weights could vary. Personally I buy 30 packs - one for each hand....

    Used 40hp two stroke value?

Its just sooooo funny how things differ, not only from people to people, but from one area to another. In my area, 4-strokes are the new wave. Two-strokes are a thing of the past, partly because the boats they are on are all rotten, and partly because the local mechanics won't work on them...
