    Where to mount my transducer?

The portable bracket is for a portable unit like what you would use on a rental boat. It's not really all that secure. You won't be happy with it.

    Where to mount my transducer?

This is the correct answer. That's the proper location. It should not be directly behind the little fin thingy because that will cause turbulence and affect the readings. This is a Garmin, not a cheepy $89 unit. The owners / installation manual should be QUITE detailed and provide all the...

Anyone know anything about Corvair(?) or maybe Traveler boats?

Though not particularly popular, we DID see boats made by the Arkansas Traveler Boat Company back in the '70's and 80's. I don't know, but I suspect that Corvair was a model number.

Bow riders with best engine access?

That was always my choice as well. Then I changed my mind and on a whim bought a OB. Our new boat goes faster, uses less gas, is smoother with no vibration and has TONS of more space and is so easy to maintain that its now a joy to service it. Did I mention it goes faster? You couldn't...

About to buy new, can someone advise me on pricing

Most dealers add a "set-up" or "dealer prep" charge in the accounting. It should be a line item on the bill. Find out what it is and insist that they discount the bottom line price by that much. That worked for me with the last 2 boat purchases.

    First Boat - 1967 Starcraft Speedqueen (??)

You have a nice classic boat. Not many around any more. Only a classic boat aficionado would appreciate it. Strip the paint as best as you can, sand it smooth and then prime the aluminum with zinc chromate (acid etching) primer. Top coat with any marine grade topside paint. Tip and roll...

    Possible boat purchase!

It all depends on what your pleasure is. Do you want to sweat taking stuff apart and then wait at home for people to come to you to buy the parts? Is your motivation to make some extra cash? Personally, my spare time is spent out in the boat swimming and drinking beer.

    Cosmetic question

One of my hobbies is restoring old outboard motors. I have painted many outboard covers. Not just that but the whole motor as well. By the picture yours doesn't need restoring. But if you insist its no trouble. Pull off the clips holding the side panels and remove them. Strip the paint off...

Can't get boat even on bunked trailer.

Plastic? Yeah... Its made out of a high density polymeric ethylene based material. I've used Ironwood's E-Z Slides for about 20 years now on several trailers. I have been so happy with them that I would never consider an alternate brand. The bunk enders make for a slick job. I see some...

Can't get boat even on bunked trailer.

If its a factory trailer, then the bunks should be adjusted to allow the boat to self-center. Your issue is a classic excuse for backing in too deep. We see it EVERY DAY at local ramps. If you cannot physically crank the boat on, then you need to put EZ-Slides on the bunks. Silicone spray...

Fender clips, source or part number?

Yes, perko is all I have. The od is 1.5, so it would likely cover the old holes anyway.

Fender clips, source or part number?

That was my thought as well. I don't know who patented them first, but if the second one found out the screw hole spacing was the same, it might be cause for litigation. Just for grins and giggles, I measured mine....1" center to center. I'd be curious to know what the other one was...

Safe to tow with bow not resting on front roller?

Your winch is fine the way it is now. The last person to load the boat simply did not pull the boat up far enough. Any winch that has the strap coming off the bottom was a rube goldberg modification to cure some perceived problem. A chain with an S-hook is intended to catch the boat as it...

Fender clips, source or part number?

Maybe that's why you hardly ever see the Taylor models in use. In the past I used mooring cleats and looped the fender line thru them. But they are not always in the ideal positions. For the past 10 years we have used the SS Perko fender locks. The actually look attractive and have a rubber...

Fender clips, source or part number?

They are Taylormade, Gloversville, NY. They sell some items direct, and I bet ebay has some as well. Google fender lock - try IBoats first...

    Wheel bearings full of water

Please explain. I never had one until 2017. Lubed it according to directions. After 3 years I pulled it apart to inspect and repack and all looked well. I am in fresh water ..

    Wheel bearings full of water

Interesting observations... When I was a plant engineer we had an enclosed production line with over 600 bearings. Most were subjected to continuous water or chemical spray. Greasing was a PM requirement, but it could only be done when the line was down. Then, with other mechanical...

    Wheel bearings full of water

I don't understand the comment. Isn't a full hub the very basic premise of a Bearing Buddy? If the hub is full, isn't that a deterrent to water intrusion? Lots of different opinions. If you have water in the bearings, you are doing something wrong. If you don't, maybe best to continue your...

    Crack in Hull

My buddy had a similar issue and he paid many thousands to fix it. Then he decided to sell it and got back roughly 1/3 of what he had spent.
