    Mercruiser starter replacement 350ci

Also depends on access in the engine compartment, if you are having it done and not doing it yourself. Some boats are easy, some are very difficult. It all depends on how the structure of the boat is designed around the engine. I've used ARCO aftermarket starters with no problems. One of the...

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

Agreed buy BRAND NEW from Holley themselves anything that isn’t factory new can be a real pain to sort out. I would not run that boat until you know ALL the electrical accessories are J1171 cert, and you have a marine carb.

    Four Winns hull strength

You main issue will be not hull strength it will be keeping water out of the boat. I have a similar boat (H-200, 20’9”) and what I have done is fit a bigger than standard bilge pump (1100 gpm vs the puny 500 gpm units many small boats come with) and I have a reinforced support pole for the bow...

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

BTW as much as I like Chevrolet small blocks my next boat will definitely be an outboard. Don’t want to deal with the I/O issues (maintenance) and worries over safety. Yes I always open the hatch & sniff & I also have a gas vapor detector but that’s what I’ve decided.

    2002 Glastron 175sx milky oil

Take off the oil cap on the valve cover when the engine is cool & see if there is a mayonnaise like deposit clinging into the valve cover. That’s a sure sign of water in the oil. That will show it more accurately & sooner that on the dipstick. Your dipstick oil doesn’t look bad but the oil that...

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

I don’t know if this is the same in Canada as here in the USA, but here inboard boats must need CG regs including standards for engine systems safety such as J1171, spark protected alternators, starters, distributors and marine grade carburetors & fuel pumps. If there was an explosion here there...

    2002 Glastron 175sx milky oil

It could have come up the exhaust, or the joint between the manifold & elbow could be leaking back into the cyls. Alternatively you could have past overheat damage causing a leaky head gasket. It isn’t uncommon on the 3.0 esp if run hard or overheated. You should try to determine if you have...

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

Doesn’t look like a marine carb. No j tubes for the bowl vents & no fuel pump overflow hose…the nipple is on the flame arrestor…...

    Can’t get on plane

Taking off the air horn of a QJet is a bit tricky the first time you do it due to the design of the accel pump linkage & the choke linkage on the other side. I would always remove the carb from the engine if you lose a part or even worse drop one down the venturi you’ll wish you removed it...

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

Over the years I had a number of old school low tech cars. Breakdowns other than flat tires (remember bias ply tires lol?) 1) 1965 VW Beetle failure of points/condenser got picked up by a college friend came back with points & condenser screw driver & feeler gauge fixed by the side of the road...

    Omc cobra 5.0 gear set

If doing a rebuild & you can get new OEM always go new. Used could have hidden impact damage that will come apart later. Doing a rebuild 2x is false economy!

It should have J tubes for the bowl vents if it’s a true marine carb.

You all got me to thinking so I pulled out my 1988 OMC shop manual & it looks like you should have a 750 CFM Marine Holley!

    KIA Telluride for towing?

Besides an adequately sized tow vehicle the most important things are: Trailer is properly sized to the boat & has enough weight capacity for the boat the boat is properly balanced on the trailer (tongue weight) the trailer brakes work. Always measure tongue weight with a tongue weight scale...

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

I’ll add one more thing to that list, anti siphon valve on the gas tank. That’s what stopped my boat from planing out. Then can corrode & the spring loaded ball gets stuck. Restricting fuel flow…

    KIA Telluride for towing?

The OP is talking about towing a 20’ boat, not a 24’ boat. For that all the vehicles I listed are more than adequate. BTW in Europe & the UK people tow boats & caravans with cars, & SUVs. There are very few pick up trucks there. It can be done with good judgement. I towed my boat all the way...

    KIA Telluride for towing?

Isn't yours an Ecoboost? V6 that puts out 470 ft lbs? The Jeep tows just fine, for what I use it for. The boat weighs 5000 lbs on the trailer, the Jeep is rated at 7200 lbs, I don't tow with cargo in it, so just where is the "problem" there Bruce? Oh and by the way, it has a better 4x4 system...

    KIA Telluride for towing?

I’m talking non turbo engines Compared to a Chrysler Pentastar V6 or a Toyota V6 in the 4 Runner the 5.7 Hemi puts out 100 ft lbs more than them. Yes turbos are great for efficiency. More complex but the tech is much better today than when turbos first came on the scene.
