    Outboard Painting

I have factory painted props that are many years old and still have all the paint left. I have props that I have painted 10 years ago and have not lost paint yet (maybe only in the water 30 or 40 times, though). I have other props that I wasn't too careful with, and have paint loss on the tips...

Refinishing mohogany swim deck - what should I use?

That's odd. I'd like to see a picture as well. If you varnish the teak (yeah it can be done) you won't be happy. If you teak oil the mahogany, I don't know what it would look like cause I never tried it.

    Outboard Painting

I have tried all the non-toxic stuff. Even used the envirofriendly mineral spirits. Threw them all away after 1 use. I use the old version of Zip Strip.

Refinishing mohogany swim deck - what should I use?

Is it mahogany or teak? I never saw a combination. Better find out what it is. Mahogany sanded smooth would require a mahogany stain from your manufacturer of choice. Then topcoat with 3 coats of Captain's Varnish (marine spar). If its teak, 3 coats of Amazon Teak Oil. (that's the brand...

    Hosclaw trailer question....spindle washer....?

Lots of nostalgia here. Your trailer looks just like my very first boat trailer. In my 53 years of boat ownership I can only recall one trailer that had a washer under the castle nut. Maybe you don't need one.

Console cover for boat with T-Top

If the boat s 3 or 4 years old, contact Wellcraft. If it is older, custom may be your only option. There is a company that makes everything for Boston Whalers, regardless of age. Try googling Wellcraft OEM parts and maybe someone specializes in them as well.

    Outboard Painting

I'll second that about prep work. If you have original paint you won't need to etch prime that. The bare spots will need it, though. The issue is the feathering. I have not been too successful in that regard. Any time I tried I always saw a hump after it was painted. I never sand a prop...

Ted Williams 5.5 hp no sparks

My translation is that because the motor has no spark he is asking what part is bad. OK, I'll bite. Magneto, (coil, points, condenser), spark plug wire and spark plug. Or, power pack. Test each part and replace as necessary.

Laingsoutboards.com I didn't specifically google your motor, but if he doesn't have new parts, nobody will.

    Open Bow Boat Sleeping ideas

We had a bow rider and we used to camp all the time. The boat had B-T-B seats that folded down. It had what they used to call "Camper Canvas". The Bimini (actually convertible top) in the front, with a second top behind it. With side curtains and an aft curtain the cockpit was totally...

Leaving I/O in water all year round?

Looking at your box of junk parts its obvious we are talking apples and tomato cans here. As I previously said, "A complete OD service". Your job did not cover the entire spectrum, hence the difference in cost. In any event, if you're happy, that's all that matters. ("must of" ?)

    Trailer for Stingray 250CS

Physically measure the OAL, beam and get the weight from the manufacturer's catalog. Add fuel, water and stuff to get the total, then add 10%. With the data in hand, go to the dealer you would like to buy it from and pick out the model that fits your requirements. A 25' boat needs a 25'...

Tahoe T16. Will it fit in my garage?

I swear, 75% of the questions here can be gleaned with a 5 second google. According to tahoe's web site, under specifications, the specs for a T16 is: Storage Length 21' 5'' Storage Length W/Optional Swing-Away Tongue 19' By the way, the "standard" 2-car garage size in the olden...

    Let’s talk batteries.

You start your car multiple times each day, so a cheepie wally battery is OK. But your boat has limited use, thus it needs to be a good one because its not charged up regularly. Even a deep cycle battery will lose its life if discharged many times below 50%. The optimum starter battery on a...

Leaving I/O in water all year round?

A COMPLETE Mercruiser I/O R&R is about a 5 hour job. My local ghetto "mobile" mechanic may be cheaper, but my Master Certified Mercruiser mechanic (dealer been in bizness since 1965) charges about $120 / hour. If you use a calculator, that comes up to about $600 just for labor. The Sea Trial...

Leaving I/O in water all year round?

Wow, you got the bargain of the year. Did you do it yourself with Chinese parts? The going rate at a reputable dealer that doesn't price gouge is about $1900. That includes ALL bellows and shift cable, impeller, sea trial, etc.

Upgrading from 2 stroke to 4 stroke

Evinrude is out of business. No 2-strokes available in the US except used. If the motor runs Ok, fix the prop. If not buy a 60 HP 4-stroke and fix that prop and you'll be happy. (fix prop = follow post #7.

    Outboard Painting

I can't say I disagree with you, but no matter what subject you talk about someone will say its too expensive, while another will say its cheap. Let's see, Gun for 20, lower priced compressor 80, hoses and fittings, 20, pint paint 40, 1/4 pint hardener 20....=....$180.00. Or, 2 cans wally @...

    Outboard Painting

If you are referring to suggestions to use a hardened paint, and of course having to buy professional spray equipment, I understand. If you are looking for cheap, quick and dirty, just go to Wallyworld and buy a $4.99 can of spray paint that is the closest match. If there is a spot that is...
