    Panel mount VHF

The panel mount for the Uniden and adapting it is not a bad idea. It is much smaller than the Ray Jeff. I’ll grab a stainless kick panel from the home center like i did for the little boat.

Temperature Gauge Not Functioning Mercruiser Alpha One, Help.

Well from 1985 you can’t rule out a gauge that took a crap. What I would do is get it up to temp and check the sensor for function

    1976 888 Fuel Questions

Don’t sweat the ethanol. Pump what you know you will use and burn it. The fuel pump is probably available if not a rebuild kit for sure is. It’s a Carter pump that has a hose nipple on the weep hole. It’s so if the pump fails it does not fill the bilge.

    Panel mount VHF

I’m looking for a somewhat inexpensive vhf that is panel mount that will fit where a Ray Jeff 5000 will. Is there anything out there or do I need to cover the hole and put cell phone chargers there? I have a new Uniden radio that is supposed to be panel mount but it’s much smaller. So it’s...

9.9 Evinrude 4 stroke carb modifications for idle

Well you’re right. It could be a Tohatsu mfg. BRP years would have been Tohatsu. But I think there was a transition period where BRP was building and servicing the old OMC stuff before the Etec released

    Wiper Arms

Wiper arm puller. Few $ at an auto parts store. Guys often have them to pull battery cables.. an adjustable battery cable puller is clunky but would also work

9.9 Evinrude 4 stroke carb modifications for idle

Considering it’s actually a Suzuki, I think it’s known the carbed models were a little finicky. Great motors though. 3 things happen to make a carbed engine run. Fuel, air and spark. My guess is the carb runs a little leaner now, causing it to run faster.. the good thing is, as long as you...

Joined the Starmada. kind of unexpectedly

it’s always something. The old Mercontrol was missing the neutral detent among other things. So I bought a new aftermarket outboard control. Hooked it up but it’s stiff. The upper shift cable is a little too short on the Alpha setup. And the control moves the locking barrel from the outside...

'89 Merc 3.0 - electronic ignition conversion PNs

You need a Delco Voyager EST distributor unless you want a setup less reliable than points ( which are very reliable ). Pertronix has been known to leave people paddling. The Delco Voyager distributors are great except there’s a small issue that the timing advance is based around newer motors...

    Mercontrol cables

I got the controller and hooked it up. Going to need longer cables. Hooks up different than the original mercontrol, and the upper shift cable was already borderline too short for the alpha setup ( transom shift vs valve cover shift ) Does the outboard controllers use a neutral switch? I...

    75 165 hp sterndrive question

would depend on condition imo. A nice old boat that is well kept but had an outdrive lock up on the water could actually be a bargain. With the condition of seals and such, running an outdrive to the point that happens without being noticed is plausible, especially if the gear oil ended up in...

    Anybody use OTA TV?

My mom does. About 60 miles. She gets about 20 stations with a large old school antenna. The digital channels allow each station to broadcast up to 5 sub channels I think so it’s a lot

bilge pump wiring. My head is going to explode

My boats an 18’ StarCraft and I’m not sure how original it actually is, but it has a bilge outlet in the same spot port and starboard. When I bought it it had a Rule 500 tossed in the bilge I never thought about adding a warning horn but it’s not a bad idea.. the float side of the circuit will...

I got got on a new purchase

Yeah. You will need to drill 2 new holes and open up the opening in a couple spots. Best to use a rotted glass boat transom skin for a template. At least that’s one way to do it. If you are going to that trouble, do the work for a 4.3L swap. The straight 6 will need a different manifold or...

bilge pump wiring. My head is going to explode

Digging up my old thread for more bilge pump wiring.. Big boat has 2 bilge pump outlets so I bought 2 new Rule 800s and an Atwood float switch. The switch is rated to 12a. The pumps are 4.5 each. Is it safe if I wire them as one controlled by the same switch? The switch has the rating but is it...

I got got on a new purchase

I wouldn’t do a thing until I investigated the condition of the engine mounting. You’re not held to a 165 if you have to redo the engine mounting. If it won’t hold a lag bolt it’s gotta get redone, and that’s at a minimum. If it would hold a lag bolt. I’d build a structure to hold a 140 3.0L...
