    Mercontrol cables

UPDATE: opened the Mercontrol. Looks pretty worn out, and missing parts like the neutral detent pin. I put the Face cam in it to see if it might work but alas same problem. The throttle cam looks worn out as well.. so going to bin this one I ordered an outboard controller that will accept gen...

Mercruiser 3.0 Alpha One Gen 2 Barrel

A deep storage tote should be deep enough. The yellow and black ones from a home center. I’d recommend modifying it with a drain spigot. From experience

    Oil level too high?

GM goodwrench 350 crate engines were listed at 4.5 quarts for a while so there is a possibility that it’s a 4.5qt pan.

    Mercontrol cables

Biggest problem I had was my dad had the shift and throttle cables backwards… but now I notice it is not giving throttle in forward. I haven’t put in the face cam yet. Outdrive is on, and I got the cables adjusted

I think it’s like 6 or 8 AH. It just amazed me I used last years charge and I still had juice

    Digital Dwell meter

I haven’t needed a dwell meter in a long time. I generally convert stuff to electronic. That said, I’m not going to convert my mercruiser to electronic because it’s not in the budget and the timing curve for a Delco EST isn’t right for an older 3.0L. I still know how to deal with points but my...

Only 2 9ft stringers on the whole boat? Need to add more?

Inboard boats do not have a hp rating. Some boats list a max engine weight in the specification for said boat. Like old StarCrafts if you look at the brochures, list the I/O hulls without engine/drive and then list how much weight to add for the various optional engines.

    Mercontrol cables

How do I get the lower shift cable close enough to put the outdrive on. Just try and make it 6”? And put it in fwd gear? My dad adjusted the cables with it off and they weren’t quite right and I know now it’s cause the drive was off. We’re not marine mechanics, just able to figure stuff out

Only 2 9ft stringers on the whole boat? Need to add more?

What kind of OMC drive do you have? Many boats only have 2 stringers, most have some bulkheads too

    Intake/ carb

I don’t think it exists unless fitting an adapter upside down could be made to work… all adapters that I’m aware of of are copies of the Trans dapt 2206. You’ll have to buy a manifold

Joined the Starmada. kind of unexpectedly

This weekend I’m hoping to have the engine running on muffs, and ready to launch next weekend for a test in a local reservoir. I need to wire the bilge pumps and blowers because I won’t go without them unless the boat never leaves the trailer. Hook up the steering and hook up the cables and...

    Mercontrol cables

I thought so. I’ll have to put the outdrive on and see what is up. I was going to swap motors to the better one I just bought but I think I’m going to see what this one will do

    Mercontrol cables

Does the cable end from the MC1 upper shift cable need replaced with an Alpha variant? It seems like it’s too long. The leg isn’t on yet so I know it can’t be adjusted yet The cable ends to the parts boat are pinned

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

It’ll run again. Dry it off, fresh fuel. If you got spark it’ll run.. if you can’t get it to run. Flood the thing with 2 stroke oil. Buy a little time.. the starter will be dry enough by the time your ready to spin it over

Need advice on 1989 4 HP Johnson

Clamp on a rubber hose as tight as you possibly can. Use bellows adhesive if you need to. Slide the slide hammer into the rubber hose, butt it to the driveshaft and tighten it with clamps as well.. this will result in a 0% chance of damage to the shaft and a very good chance of working. It’s...

    Renting A Boat

I think renting a boat exempts the safety class. Not that anyone should avoid that class however.. you see it on posts on the NY boater law complaining because renters are exempt, ignoring the fact the course can be obtained free of charge from boatUS

    Mercontrol cables

I do kinda remember needing to push 2 buttons on my dad’s old Chief. I tried pushing the top 2 buttons remembering that but nothing happened. The wiring to the panel has been butchered and repaired like most have. Being it’s over 50 years old now
