Alpha drive for a V8 whats the ratio?

Any suggestions?? get another mirage or get yours fixed by a prop shop. If you don't have one near you try Prop MD they have a very efficient and reasonably priced mail order repair service. As Jimbo lays out when you get into it there is more to it than diameter and pitch. There is no...

Where ie the engineers spec on my mercuiser 3ltr. Data plate not to be found

If the tag near the starter is gone look through any literature that came with the boat. Both of my last two boats (bought used) had a folder from the boat manufacturer most of it was safety CYA stuff but in there was a mercruiser booklet that had the serial number for the power package. It...

350 Magnum - exhaust riser damaged brass plug

What he said....also check the oil doesnt get milky. Could be that there is no water in there but with reusing gaskets and a leak you might have an issue better to make sure there is no water than have an issue later

350 Magnum - exhaust riser damaged brass plug

Don't need sealant on the new gaskets but you should take out your spark plugs and make sure there is no water in the cylinders. If this gasket leaks water can leak into combustion chambers and get into oil. Can hydro lock the engine and rust the valve stems I would use perfect seal aka...

Maintenance - New owner of 89 Mercruiser 4.3L Alpha One

Ive run rotella which is good if you have a flat tappet cam. In my newer 5.0 i run mobil 1. 15w50 seems to keep oil pressure up even on good long higher rpm runs or when im towing skiiers for and hour plus straight. The conventional rotella is also about as cheap as it gets

Alpha drive for a V8 whats the ratio?

A 5.0 mpi is 260 hp Gear ratio will be stamped on the outdrive by the lube vent plug. Willing to bet it is a 1.62:1 In addition to bondos comments if you were happy with the performance and it hits 4800 rpms or so at wot get the same prop. if you are looking to change the performance let us...

2001 4.3 vortec oil is milky

If yiu check below the cylinder heads, water passage on intake and the exhaust manifolds you will have it covered.

Is my Mercruiser fuel injected or carb?

No not to TBI but you will see some gain if you swap out the 2 bbl for a 4 bbl . would need an intake manifold too . I did that with my 5.0 runs very well and has great midrange throttle response. The eddelbrock 1409 is pretty good right out of the box on a 5.0

2001 4.3 vortec oil is milky

That exactly why I repowered. PO had cracked the block. Likely you will find the block cracked below the heads in the lifter valley. Easy to pull the intake to confirm. My boat (2004 Sea Ray 200) was offered with 4.3 and 5.0 engine options. Stringers and engine bay were set up for the longer...

    Sundowner 205 prop

You don’t say if you can get to WOT without the engine hitting rev limiter ? I assume you run out of rpms before getting throttle wide open ? As outlined above u likely need more pitch either 17” or 19” would definitely recommend roughing things in pitch wise before u spend on stainless...

    888 running cold

As mentioned would verify temp is accurate first Any blockage from a spent impeller would raise temps not lower them If it is low given your comment on cooling line mix up would verify that the cooling water flow is correct as to run too cool you would have to have water flow bypassing the...

    Does E3 make marine plugs?

At some point GM wasnt using the Vortec name on enough engines so they called the 3.0 a Vortec 3000. suspect nothing is different vs the 3.0 … https://marinepowerusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/30lspecs.pdf

Alpha drive for a V8 whats the ratio?

Ye cant have one with a 1.62 and the other drive a 1.47 ... If the engines are running 3000 rpm the prop shaft rpm diff between a 1.50 and 1.47 is 40 rpm. I doubt the throttle cables on a 1988 boat are synced that close. At some point merc tweaked their upper and lower gear designs that the...
