1966 Islander - Anyone had success installing a porta potty or other toilet solution in the bow/cabin area?

It was in the center. Not sure what size it was . . . fairly long time ago.

    1989 Celebrity 181BR Restoration

Start with what you think you may need for materials (Resin, cloth, etc.) . . . you can always buy more as needed. Also, be aware that your resin application methods can save on resin, $$$, and weight, if that is desirable. I'd try with 20 gallons of resin, even if you end up needing 30 gallons.

1966 Islander - Anyone had success installing a porta potty or other toilet solution in the bow/cabin area?

I don't have any specific ideas, but some pictures would be nice. My 24 Cuddy had the porta-poop under a section of v-berth cushion. Maybe similar to what @jimmwaller is describing.

    Replacement Ladder

Shop similar brands, (Amarine, Attwood, etc.) to see if you can find a fit. Lots of online products don't show enough of the dimensions to make a proper choice. If the holes are 12" apart on-center, then the ladder is probably advertised as a 14" ladder (perhaps)

1885 5.7L weak water supply to circulation pump

EDIT: Just saw your post above . . . You say 'inboard', but posted in the sterndrive forum. So is it a sterndrive (Mercruiser Alpha)? The circulation pump does not draw water into or push water out of the engine. It circulates water through the engine block. The Raw Water Pump brings water...

Thinking of buying a Maxum 2400 SCR. Thoughts?

Yes, you know the drill. Structural moisture, etc. Just wondering what those white hoses coming from the top of the engine are . . . probably to the water heater on the port side (answered my own question). As far as parts . . . Great Lakes Skipper is always a place to check, but many parts...

    1989 Celebrity 181BR Restoration

Wood core . . . fiberglass coated. I think there have been some restorations of Celebrity boats in the past. So, you could search the restoration forum for some specific guidance and some pictures of what's ahead.

    Are we in trouble?

I am always nervous about the time intervals between . . . Inspections/acceptance of the boat, delivery of the cash, and taking physical possession of the boat. The time between the inspections and taking physical possession is where things can go wrong. It is best to make sure that...

    1989 Celebrity 181BR Restoration

You can go over to Home Depot and get yourself one of those moisture meters for wood. ($40 ish) then with a couple of small drill holes test the bulkhead and stringers for moisture level. I'm thinking the structure (stringers, bulkheads, etc) is pretty well saturated with water given the...

    Are we in trouble?

Help us out here . . . You agreed to buy the boat (when)? Were there any contingencies for inspections in-water testing? You paid the $$$ last week. What does the sales contract state regarding inspections and transfer of ownership? What commitments have been made by the dealer? Are they...

    Are we in trouble?

The answer to your original question (Are We in Trouble?) may be yes. However, it really depends on the details of the transaction and ownership transfer. If you are in a situation of being stuck with owning a broken boat (engine), you are really relying on the dealer acting in good faith. If...

    Are we in trouble?

So 'purchase made' meaning money paid? It may be your boat, but consumer protection laws would come into play at that point. 'fitness for use' type of stuff. When did it become your father's boat and should it have been winterized prior to . . .? Money paid usually is when ownership...

    Are we in trouble?

You should get your $$$ back and start over with a different dealer/boat. Replacing an engine is real hit-or-miss and lots of variables to consider. None of that will be in your control and you will be victimized the whole way. Run away and find something else.

    Buying a boat

Many boats are fine for beginners . . . not too big, not too powerful, not too complicated. Have you taken water safety/boating safety courses? You should. How much money is a lot? Use the buyers checklist that JB posted. Engine/outdrive - OMC sterndrive engines are a concern (OMC went out...

Maybe my turn for new boat time

I think that is why the used market is so strong, particularly in slightly used boats (under 5 years). It is the 'bird in the hand' situation. I have seen folks trying to buy new, only to get pushed out in the lead time once they place an order. The boat market has been so crazy the past...
