    The pump is to be mounted directly over the PRESSURE pulse port on the side of top cylinder.-----So 2 nipples on the pump.-----Remove the pulse limiter and plug that hole.-----Use the 556 pump with the gasket & 2 screws.

    There is a seal on the driveshaft.----A seal on the propshaft.-----I showed the 8 year old grandson how to change the impeller on a 10 HP once.----I think he ( now 13 ) could change the seals on this simple gearcase.-----Nothing is going to jump at you.

    It sounds like normal oil seepage common on 2 stroke motors.-----Oil mixed with gasoline and the workings of a 2 stroke are not well understood.-----Pretty simple to install new oil seals on that little machine.

    The 1965 model never had a module / stator assembly under the flywheel.----The L78V was never specified for the 1965 model 3.9 Mercury.---Never !

    Well----You need to view some videos on U-tube to learn these basics.----Or find a boat shop willing to work on it and find that information for you.----They are usually $100+ / hr.----Then again it may be as simple as a sheared flywheel key.----Or fine tuning of the low speed mixture screws on...

    The decals / cowling is clearly a 1965 model to me!----Some will argue---But I would pull the flywheel.----Replace condenser.-----Clean and set breaker points.----Great little motor and should run like a top all day long.----You have installed a new water pump impeller I hope.
