    Glastron SX 175 Gas Smell

I don't know about your exact boat on mine there is an access handhole threaded into a fitting in the floor above the sender and pick up tube. the entire glass floor above the tank unscrews to access complete tank and remove it if needed. I suspect you have a cracked fill or vent hose . No...

    350 mag mpi manifold/elbow temp

They will be hot to the touch, you can put your hand on them but you dont want to leave it there long. If you just replaced manis and elbiws you are prob fine. to give yourself some piece of mind have you verified the flow to thermostat housing ? If you have the poppet valves feeding elbows they...

    350 mag mpi manifold/elbow temp

Is this a salt or fresh water boat? The one side is getting on the edge of hot might be worth taking off elbows to see what passages look like in terms of scale and corrosion

    Time to chuck the 470

Correct but depends on how he uses it. My typical use is 6-8 people doing watersports… cant have enough hp. If its him spouse and a friend or two cruising stop for a swim, get a low pitch prop and a 3.0 will putz along just fine and be real easy to maintain… didnt know that for sure then yes it...

    Time to chuck the 470

Absolutely when compared to fueling up the car, but when you put the fuel costs vs other family pastimes it seems cheap compared to other things.

    Time to chuck the 470

I would do the swap get it in the water then play with prop pitch and gear ratios in that order. usual fuel line, linakge, shift plate mounting. Biggest concern is the exhaust down pipe not sure if the 3.0 and 3.7 use the same down pipe and if it can be finagled to fit or modified by using...

Mercruiser 3.0 to Mercruiser 4.3 swap

Yes you can also probably use the 3.0 drive by increasing prop pitch. I did a 4.3=>5.0 swap that should have also ‘required’ a 1.81=>1.62 drive swap. Went from a 19” pitch to a 21” pitch and hit wot rpm perfectly.

    Time to chuck the 470

I didn't because my boat was set up for it (boat was factory offered w 4.3's and 5.0's). Stringers supporting side mounts were long enough to accommodate the 4.5" diff between 4.3 and 5.0 locations and front and back of blocks are identical between 4.3 and SBC. I just plugged the original lag...

    Time to chuck the 470

To the OP since this boat has family value to you and you want to do it right, you best bet is to find a boat (cl/ebay) with a '91 and newer (gen 2 drive) preferably 96 and newer (for vortec engine) that has a roached interior or rotten stringers. Even if block is cracked (get new or reman...

Engine access is never easy ....but...

Agreed- Last fall I changed my alpha one impeller, which was OEM, after 6 years /280 hrs) could have gone another 6 years. Fair comment on fuel filter but Fuel filter in a car that doesn't have the moisture exposure and tank gets emptied every 2 weeks may present a different challenge to fuel...

Only a couple thing i can think of where are your idle mix screws set? Take out jets and boosters to make sure all...

    Time to chuck the 470

No disputing the durability and reliability of a 3.0, had one in a 17 ft sea ray for many years and really beat the snot out of it taking the kids tubing and skiing. Propped correctly it can give decent performance and you are correct that it may be an easier swap. Not a bad suggestion depending...

    Stall during acceleration

most likely the carb needs another rebuild With a good kit. A lot of folks get rebuilt ones off the web that are problematic And or not set up correctly for the application, hence the recommendation to rebuild yours if its is an unmolested core… likely you are lean in transition circuit or...

    Time to chuck the 470

Good point this would be a good option if a V required extensive rework to engine compartment/cowling.... only issue will be going down in power. If you just putz to a swimming spot or evening booze cruise prob doent matter if propped right
