    HULL REPAIR QUESTION

That looks bad . . . Not something you want to fuss with as a newbie. A shop would be pricey, as I'm guessing the entire bottom may need to be re-gelcoated ??? Might be more than the boat $,$$$ What next on your list of boats ?

    Raw water?

Thanks, Chris . . . I was not sure if they were 470's. A 1987 anything would be a bit of work regardless. 470's would be icing on the cake 🤪

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

I've ordered the top stitch and the zipper. (not that I an doing zippers, but they come in handy for tight corners and curved seams. . I see more pesser feet online that are of a different mounting style, so not sure if the Consew 226 is the same as these.

    Raw water?

Not a real good picture, but I don't see a heat exchanger, so the engines look to be raw water cooled.

    Used sailboat / stringers.

Smaller sailboats don't have much in terms of stringers. What sailboat might you be referring to or considering?

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Since there are so many pieces (and seats), I am marking the old skins up with the seam matches and the additional alignment marks I mentioned. .

The seats are the white and light gray. The dark colors are in parts of the trim.

    Question about resin

I use epoxy in situations where adhesion is important. Mostly VE resin in projects and repairs. It seems to have a longer working time than poly and it tastes better. :ROFLMAO:

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Weekend Update . . . I have been making some progress on the seats, but I need to get some 'presser foot' accessories for the sewing machine. I have a lot of presser foot adapters for stitching from the right side of the machine, which is obstructed by the arm. I need a few things to sew...

    Question about resin

Poly does not readily adhere to epoxy, because of something known as 'amine blush', which a waxy by-product of epoxy that resides on the surface as it cures. Poly is plenty strong, just more brittle than epoxy. Epoxy has very good adhesion qualities . . . a bit different than strength. If you...

First Cushion - Done !!! About 20 more to go 🤪 . . . Corner base of the Aft/Port seat. Although this is one of the smallest cushions, it still was a bit difficult to make. . . Alignment of the colors took some time. I have a failed attempt at this cushion that is going in the trash

Seller said it came from factory that way ? Doubt it

This does not sound like a boat that you want to pursue. Move onto the next boat. Do make sure the seller has the proper paperwork to prove that they own it, particularly if a 'seller' is selling for someone else (who passed away, etc., etc.)

Chips in hull of new boat. Used it twice. How serious?

It is hard to tell where on the hull these gelcoat chips are from the pictures you posted. Your two possibilities are beaching or loading onto the trailer. They will need to be fixed and you will have to be more careful going forward.

Inverter with shore power - Question ???

No . . . the boat will be on a mooring (not a slip) during the summer. So, no access to shore power. I'm not running anything while the boat is not in use. Just to keep the batteries charged for the little current draw that exists with the Mercathode, radio memory, etc. I'm not sure you are...

Seller said it came from factory that way ? Doubt it

Not familiar with Bahia . . . but I see that there is a FB page. It probably did not come from the factory as a 'Frankenstein-motor'. 4.3 engine vs. 24 feet does not sound like a good match . . . more boat than engine. Sounds like you are asking a question . . . What advice or guidance would...

Inverter with shore power - Question ???

Here is my handy work with a schematic - keep in mind that this is for maintaining the batteries only (think trickle charge) as the boat sits at the mooring. It would need to maintain the 2 Mercathode systems and the radio keep-alive, and maybe 1 or 2 other things - God only knows what...

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

No, there is a gift form/exemption and also transfer within the family is non-taxable. It is really just the private sales that they have tightened up on.

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

Another interesting thing that I learned going through the vehicle registration process, is that for private party vehicle sales, the Mass. DOT applies sales tax on the greater amount of (1) the price paid or (2) the Kelly Bluebook value. It seems that they got wise to the fact that many people...

Yes, I tend not to worry about that stuff . . . as I buy my $4 donut and $3 coffee 🤪
